90+' Final notes - Chivas
Chivas was lucky to get out of the first half without surrendering a goal - largely due to the play of goalkeeper Zach Thornton - but the visitors' pace and movement up top was ultimately the difference. Justin Braun and Eduardo Lillingston created a handful of second-half chances for Chivas, who will surely be happy with a 2-0-0 record to start the season. This afternoon's final was a good result for the visitors, who played without their most dynamic player, Sacha Kljestan.
90+' Final notes - Dallas
This really was a game of two halves. FC Dallas' midfield held possession well in the first 45 minutes and Dave van den Bergh was especially dangerous with several crosses into Chivas' area. Forwards Jeff Cunningham and Kenny Cooper squandeered their chances in front of goal, which was unfortunate for the home side because the two attackers received very little service in the second half as Dallas' midfield seemed to disappear. Dallas' defense, especially the central back pairing of Steven Purdy and Daniel Torres, struggled with Chivas' pacey forwards, and goalkeeper Ray Burse was left without much support in the back. Dallas now heads on the road for two games without earning a single point in two home matches.

The full-time whistle has blown at Pizza Hut Park, with visiting Chivas USA claiming a 2-0 victory over FC Dallas.
89' Braun continues to look dangerous
Chivas forward Justin Braun works his way out of the corner with some quick footwork and earns a free kick for the visitors. The young forward has given the Dallas defense fits in the second half with his movement and pace up top, and he is unlucky not to have added to Chivas' goal total.

Justin Braun beats FCD defender Steven Purdy to a through ball and just misses adding a third goal for Chivas when his left-footed effort hits the post. On the opposite end of the field, Kenny Cooper sends a powerful header high of the Chivas goal.

Other than Cooper's disallowed goal in the early moments of the second half, Dallas has yet to threaten the Chivas goal in the first 15 minutes of the half, and the visitors appear to have the momentum on their side.

Chivas makes its first substitution of the match, bringing off goalscorer Eduardo Lillingston for newly-signed midfielder Bojan Stepanovic. The 26-year-old Serbian was signed by Chivas just this week but has been training with the visitors for a month.

Good work from Chivas forward Justin Braun to get into the FCD area, hold the ball up, and lay a back pass to Gerson Mayen leads to a low shot from Mayen that beats Ray Burse but falls just wide of the FCD goal. Chivas' attack looks more lively in the second half, as the Dallas defense appears to be struggling with the pace of Braun and Lillingston, and the visitors are actively searching for their second goal.

Against the run of play and despite pressure from two FCD defenders, Eduardo Lillingston puts the visitors ahead with a beautiful one-touch finish from the edge of the 18-yard-box. Gerson Mayen played a high ball into the path of Lillingston, who scored past the diving Ray Burse for his first career MLS goal.

FCD defender Daniel Torres has gone down with an apparent foot injury and is helped off the field by the medical staff. Chivas almost takes advantage of its momentary man advantage with a venture into the Dallas area, but FCD goalkeeper Ray Burse comes up with a save at the feet of Atiba Harris.
48' FCD goal disallowed
FCD has a goal nullified for offside in the early moments of the second half. A Dax McCarty cross was touched by Jeff Cunningham into the path of Kenny Cooper and Cooper finished from a tight angle. However, the goal was called back after Cooper was ruled by the assistant referee to be in an offside position when he was played through by Cunningham.

The second half has kicked off, and FCD has subbed Aaron Pitchkolan into the match for defender Blake Wagner.
45+' Halftime notes
The first half could have easily seen three or four goals, with both teams lacking a scoring punch despite several close chances. The Dallas midfield has controlled the tempo and provided several opportunities for forwards Kenny Cooper and Jeff Cunningham, but the veteran attackers have failed to find the net. Chivas is struggling with its play in midfield without the talent and poise of Sacha Kljestan, but forward Atiba Harris had perhaps the game's best look on goal, only to be turned away by Ray Burse from point-blank range. Both goalkeepers need to be credited for their roles in keeping clean sheets in the first half, as Ray Burse and Zach Thornton have come up with their share of clutch saves. Despite the 0-0 scoreline, it has been an exciting match so far, and hopefully the second half matches the pace and energy of the first 45 minutes.

43' FCD unable to finish
FCD is unable to capitalize on two crosses into the Chivas box from midfielder Dave van den Bergh, but forward Kenny Cooper misses a golden opportunity when he flashes a breakaway shot well high of Zach Thornton and the Chivas goal. Jeff Cunningham played Cooper through on goal, but Cooper is unable to test Thornton with his effort as Chivas midfielder Gerson Mayen provided some late pressure.
40' Chivas free kick
Chivas midfielder Atiba Harris is fouled by Pablo Ricchetti just outside the FCD area. Carey Talley takes the free kick for the visitors but his cross eludes Harris at the back post.
37' Burse and Thornton both come up huge
A corner kick from Chivas defender Carey Talley bounces in the area and falls favorably to Atiba Harris six yards from goal. Harris hits his first-time shot at FCD goalkeeper Ray Burse, and the young goalkeeper showcases his impressive reactions to make the save and keep the visitors off the scoresheet. Zach Thornton does his counterpart in goal one better with two point-blank saves on FCD forward Kenny Cooper. The veteran keeper goes low for the first save and high for the second to keep the match level.
32' Another weak effort from Cooper is comfortably saved
FCD defender Drew Moor plays a ball into the feet of Kenny Cooper, who turns his defender and sends a low, bouncing shot to Zach Thornton. The Chivas goalkeeper makes an easy save, his third of the match.
28' FCD midfield putting on the pressure
The Dallas midfield continues to play well on both sides of the ball and the home team's pressure almost leads to the game's first goal. After a quick build-up from right to left involving Dax McCarty, David Ferreira, and Dave van den Bergh, van den Bergh's cross finds the head of Jeff Cunningham at the edge of the 6-yard-box. Cunningham beats his marker to the ball and has an open goal to aim at, but the veteran forward heads the cross into the ground and wide.
25' FCD earns second corner kick
Dax McCarty takes Dallas' second corner kick of the game but his cross is punched away by Zach Thornton. Moments earlier, FCD midfielder Dave van den Bergh's searching cross to the back post evaded Thornton's grasp but was cleared away from danger by a Chivas defender.
21' Both teams create chances
FCD midfielder Dax McCarty sends a dangerous cross into the Chivas area and the feet of David Ferreira, enabling Ferreira to place a low shot on frame. Chivas goalkeeper Zach Thornton makes sure not to give up a rebound with a few FCD attackers on his doorstep. On the opposite end, Paulo Nagamura sends a low ball across the FCD goal, but no Chivas player is able to get on the end of Nagamura's cross.

11' Simple mistakes have marked the first 10 minutes
The two teams are attempting to play on the ground and are targeting the feet of their attackers, but both clubs are guilty of surrendering some easy throw-ins with simple mistakes. It's clear that they are still working out some kinks and jitters, which isn't surprising since it's so early in the season.

FCD forward Jeff Cunningham plays a low ball into the path of onrushing forward Kenny Cooper, but Cooper's weak attempt on goal is easily saved by Zach Thornton.

The visitors earn a corner kick, taken by Carey Talley from the left. Talley's corner takes a deflection off the head of an FCD defender and falls to Chivas defender Shavar Thomas but Thomas sends his header just over the bar.

Chivas USA kicked its season off on the right foot, rallying from a one-goal deficit to defeat the Colorado Rapids 2-1 at The Home Depot Center last Saturday night. Midfielder Paulo Nagamura scored both goals in the span of four minutes to pace Chivas. The most notable absence for the visitors in today's game is US international Sacha Kljestan, who started in last night's World Cup qualifier against El Salvador. Midfielder Gerson Mayen will make his first career start in place of Kljestan.

FC Dallas comes into today's match sporting a 0-1-0 record after dropping a 3-1 home decision to the Chicago Fire last weekend. FCD will be without starting goalkeeper Dario Sala for the next 4-6 weeks after Sala underwent left knee surgery earlier in the week. Ray Burse will make his ninth career start in Sala's absence. The Hoops will also welcome back captain Pablo Ricchetti in midfield, as second-year pro Bruno Guarda drops to the bench. Ricchetti missed the season opener because of a one-game suspension.
