Rays re-sign Thompson to minor league contract
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) The Tampa Bay Rays have re-signed outfielder Rich Thompson to a minor league contract.
The team also announced Thursday that five other players - infielder Mike Fontenot, right-handed pitchers Matt Buschmann and Will Inman, first baseman Nick Weglarz and infielder Shawn O'Malley - also agreed to minor league deals that include invitations to major league spring training.
The 33-year-old Thompson appeared in 23 games - 12 as a pinch runner - with the Rays after being acquired from the Philadelphia last May.
