Mets call up LHP Olson, demote RHP Elvin Ramirez
NEW YORK (AP) The New York Mets have promoted left-hander Garrett Olson from Triple-A Buffalo and sent down righty reliever Elvin Ramirez.
Olson joined the team for Tuesday night's game against Miami. He's pitched in the majors with Baltimore, Seattle and Pittsburgh, and was 4-7 with a 4.56 ERA at Buffalo.
Ramirez was 0-1 with a 7.30 ERA games for the Mets. Right-hander Dillon Gee was moved to the 60-day disabled list. Also, lefty C.J. Nitkowski has moved from Double-A to Triple-A.
There was no further word on lefty Tim Byrdak, who has a tear in his shoulder and may need surgery. Byrdak leads the majors with 56 appearances, covering 30 2-3 innings.
"We probably used him more than we should have," manager Terry Collins said.
Added Collins: "I just hope he comes out of it OK and can resume pitching."
