Angels playing game under protest

CHICAGO (AP) The Los Angeles Angels are playing their Friday night game against the Chicago White under protest.

Paul Konerko of the White Sox hit a grounder to third base with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the first inning. After getting the out at home, catcher Chris Iannetta fired wide to first, pulling Albert Pujols off the bag.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia argued that Konerko was not within the base line for the last 45 feet. The umpires convened and upheld the safe call, but Scioscia returned to argue. After a second umpire meeting, Konerko was still ruled safe and Scioscia filed his protest.

A.J. Pierzynski hit a three-run homer with twwo outs later in the inning to put the White Sox up 4-1.
