Marlins 3B Ramirez dealing with hand infection
PITTSBURGH (AP) Miami Marlins third baseman Hanley Ramirez was held out of Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to an infection in his right hand.
Manager Ozzie Guillen said Ramirez's hand was visibly swollen when he arrived at PNC Park. Ramirez was meeting with Pirates team physician Dr. Edward Snell before the game and was held out as a precaution. Guillen said he hopes Ramirez will be available when the series continues Saturday.
Guillen called Ramirez's hand "ugly" and originally thought it was a bug bite before ordering him to meet with doctors. Guillen said the hand was not bothering Ramirez during the series against the Chicago Cubs earlier this week.
The 28-year-old Ramirez is hitting .246 with 14 homers in 91 games this season. Greg Dobbs started at third in place of Ramirez on Friday.
