Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie injures leg at Yankees
NEW YORK (AP) Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie bruised his right calf when he flipped over a railing trying to catch a foul pop in the third inning of their game against the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
Lawrie slammed his right leg onto an unpadded railing inside a camera well while somersaulting over the protected railing separating the deep well from the field.
The 22-year-old tried standing up but immediately went down after attempting to put weight on his leg. Several members of Toronto's staff ran from the dugout to assist Lawrie. X-rays were negative and he is day to day.
The injury comes only two days after slugger Jose Bautista hurt his wrist swinging the bat. He was put on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.
Lawrie came in hitting .280 with eight homers and 34 RBIs in his second big league season. He was 0 for 2 on Wednesday.
