Padres place RHP Wieland on 15-day DL

PHILADELPHIA (AP) The San Diego Padres have placed right-hander Joe Wieland on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow.

The Padres also recalled infielder James Darnell from Triple-A Tucson before Friday night's game at Philadelphia. The 25-year-old Darnell hit .267 with 21 RBIs in 31 games at Tucson this season.

The 22-year-old Wieland is 0-4 with a 4.55 ERA in five starts with the Padres this year. He allowed two runs and five hits over 5 2-3 innings in a no-decision against Miami on Sunday.
