Angels place Hawkins on DL with broken finger

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Los Angeles Angels have placed right-hander LaTroy Hawkins on the 15-day disabled list because of a broken pinkie finger on his right hand.

Hawkins was injured on Sunday while picking up his first save of the season. He broke his finger while catching a ball off the bat of Toronto's Omar Vizquel that resulted in a game-ending double play. Hawkins had a 1.08 ERA in 8 1-3 innings pitched, one of the few stable contributors in a struggling Angels bullpen.

Scott Downs was also injured on Sunday, bruising his left knee while dodging a line drive. He is day to day.

The Angels purchased the contract of right-hander David Pauley from Triple-A Salt Lake to take Hawkins' place in the bullpen. Pauley had a 2.29 ERA in 19 2-3 innings.
