Recovering from 17-inning game, Orioles add arms

BALTIMORE (AP) Fresh off a 17-inning win in which they had to use a position player to pitch the final two innings, the Baltimore Orioles have promoted two right-handers from the minors.

The Orioles recalled Jason Berken and purchased the contract of Stu Pomeranz from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

Baltimore optioned righty Tommy Hunter and catcher Ronny Paulino to Norfolk. Hunter started Sunday's game but lasted just 4 1-3 innings before the Orioles beat Boston in the 17th. He's 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA in six starts.

Paulino is batting .300 in nine games.

Berken pitched with the Orioles from 2009-11.

To make room, Baltimore transferred left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada to the 60-day disabled list. He is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery on Friday.
