Padres sent Frieri to Angels for 2 minor leaguers

SAN DIEGO (AP) The San Diego Padres have sent right-handed reliever Ernesto Frieri to the Los Angeles Angels for infielder Alexi Amarista and right-hander Donn Roach, both minor leaguers.

Frieri was 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA in 11 appearances before Thursday's trade. He was the longest tenured player in the Padres organization, signing as a non-drafted free agent at 17 in January 2003. The native of Colombia made his big league debut with San Diego in 2009.

The Padres will fill his spot on the 25-man roster Friday before the opener of a home series against the Miami Marlin.

Amarista hit .273 with12 RBIs in 18 games for Triple-A Salt Lake. He'll be assigned to Tucson.

Roach was 5-0 with a 2.16 ERA with Class-A Inland Empire.
