Brewers purchase RHP Chulk's contract
ST. LOUIS (AP) The Milwaukee Brewers purchased the contract of right-hander Vinnie Chulk and optioned reliever Mike McClendon to Triple-A Nashville, the team announced after its 7-3 loss to St. Louis on Saturday.
The move is to bolster a bullpen that's been used extensively the past week. McClendon, a right-hander, appeared in three games since being recalled April 20, including three innings on Friday against the Cardinals.
Chulk has a career 4.33 ERA in seven seasons with Toronto, San Francisco and Cleveland, where he last pitched in the majors in 2009.
The team announced that left-hander Chris Narveson will officially be placed on the 60-day disabled list. He is scheduled to have season-ending surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff on Tuesday. Narveson started twice this season.
