The documents are part of a federal lawsuit in Miami and describe a dangerous odyssey of shady characters, unpaid smuggling debts and threats of violence that have followed Puig since he left Cuba by boat in June 2012.
Analysis: The tale is based almost entirely on the account of the boxer, Yunior Despaigne, who says he is afraid he will be hurt by the smugglers or their associates if Puig hasn't paid them money he owes. In a 10-page affidavit, Despaigne said a smuggler he knew as ''Leo'' sent someone to see him in Miami to deliver a message.

Analysis: Puig was set to bat leadoff against Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner on Saturday in the second game of a three-game series. Puig said he apologized to manager Don Mattingly and his teammates, and they accepted. That's small consolation for fantasy owners who don't know whether they can count on him, especially since traffic in L.A. is always bad.

The rest of the team was already on the field stretching before batting practice on Friday while Puig was getting dressed in the clubhouse. He had been slated to start in right field against the San Francisco Giants.
Analysis: Matt Kemp replaced Puig after manager Don Mattingly had earlier said Kemp wouldn't start. Kemp came off the disabled list on Friday, and according to Mattingly, Kemp was upset when initially told that he wasn't in the lineup. Kemp has been rehabbing from left ankle and shoulder operations. He was limited to 179 games during the last two seasons because of injuries.

Building in the left-field corner. It was his first homer of the season. Puig also singled and is 5 for 17 (.294) with four RBIs in his first four games this season.

Manager Don Mattingly called the meeting Tuesday after the 23-year-old Cuban defector made two mistakes on the basepaths during the second game of the Dodgers' season-opening trip to Australia last weekend - mistakes that made headlines in the media.
Analysis: Mattingly thought the meeting went well to help diffuse any trouble with Puig, who tested the Dodgers' patience during his rookie season last year with several mental errors on the bases and in the field. ESPN.com first reported the meeting.
