He made 25 tosses on Friday, the second throwing session of a rehab project that is still a long way from being finished.
Analysis: He needed about five minutes to complete the 25 throws to Marlins athletic trainer Sean Cunningham, who winced occasionally as Fernandez's throws from about 30 to 45 feet neared his glove.

Analysis: Fernandez made 25 throws of 30 feet - half the distance from the mound to the plate - and said he felt great after the brief workout Wednesday at Marlins Park. The 2013 National League Rookie of the Year was cleared last week to begin a throwing program. Fernandez underwent surgery May 16 and hopes to return around midseason in 2015.

Analysis: The 2013 National League Rookie of the Year plans on throwing either at 30 or 45 feet for three to four minutes during the Oct. 1 throwing session, but does not anticipate expediting the process for a return. Fernandez is attempting to come back from his season-ending Tommy John surgery May 16. He is 12-6 with a 2.19 ERA in 28 career starts and has 187 strikeout in 172 2-3 innings.

Analysis: Fernandez was struck on the inside of the left thigh during Sunday's 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. On Monday, he was selected as the National League Pitcher of the Month. The 21-year-old right-hander was hit by a one-hopper off the bat of Dee Gordon. Fernandez remained in the game and pitched seven innings, and got a no-decision. Fernandez said he had a painful bruise, but that he was feeling better.

Last season's NL Rookie of the Year was tagged for eight hits and a career-worst six earned runs in four-plus innings. The right-hander walked four, matching a career high, and struck out six. He gave up only one run over 18 innings in three appearances against Philadelphia last season.

Analysis: Fernandez (2-0) improved his career record at home to 11-0 even though he was at less than his best. He allowed his first two walks of the season back to back. His foot slipped on a delivery, and the pitch bounced several feet in front of the plate. One frustrating inning ended with the Marlins' ace shaking his head and screaming angrily into his glove. But Fernandez allowed only three hits, walked two and struck out eight. Three relievers followed to complete a five-hitter.
