No verdict was announced. The Orioles hoped the decision would be rendered after Friday's split doubleheader against Tampa Bay.

Analysis: Machado hasn't played in the majors since undergoing left knee surgery last October. He was not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against Pittsburgh on Thursday, but manager Buck Showalter said the 21-year-old would start in the nightcap. Machado takes the roster spot vacated by first baseman Chris Davis, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained left oblique. Davis had a platelet-rich-plasma injection on Monday.

|Mar. 11 12:06 PM PT1:06 PM MT2:06 PM CT3:06 PM ET15:06 ET19:06 GMT3:06 12:06 PM MST2:06 PM EST2:36 PM VEN23:06 UAE1:06 PM CT-Machado's contract has been renewed by the Baltimore Orioles at a slight raise, a deal that disappointed the All-Star third baseman. The 21-year-old will receive $519,000 - $19,000 above the major league minimum - and would earn an additional $100,000 for winning the 2013 Platinum Glove Award as the AL's best defensive player. Machado had a $495,000 base salary last season and earned $25,000 for making the AL All-Star team.
Analysis: Teams had until Tuesday to reach agreements with unsigned players on their 40-man rosters, and players not eligible for arbitration were subject to unilateral renewal by their clubs. Machado says "it's the system, and the system is never going to change." He has yet to play this spring training following offseason knee surgery.
|Feb. 16 1:17 PM PT2:17 PM MT3:17 PM CT4:17 PM ET16:17 ET21:17 GMT5:17 2:17 PM MST4:17 PM EST4:47 PM VEN1:17 UAE (+1)3:17 PM CT-Machado reported to the Baltimore Orioles' spring training camp Sunday and got right to work. Still, he's not making any promises about being ready for opening day. Four months after having left knee surgery, the All-Star third baseman took batting practice and fielded grounders.
Analysis: Machado injured his knee on Sept. 24 running the bases at Tampa Bay. He's changed the way he runs to avoid future injuries, but for now, he's still limited in what he can do. He'll have another medical examination in about a month. If he's allowed to, he'll then be able to play in games. Manager Buck Showalter estimates Machado will need about two weeks of exhibition games before he's ready to play.
