The Royals, though, are still concerned about his hyperextended left elbow. Royals manager Ned Yost said Perez would probably be ready to play in a week.
Analysis: Perez returned to the Royals camp Wednesday after playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. He was injured Saturday in a collision at the plate with his Royals backup, Drew Butera, who was playing for Italy. Initially, the knee was Perez's main concern, and he had a second MRI on Tuesday. But the test only showed inflammation, not serious damage.

Analysis: The Royals are surely hoping that's all the time Perez will miss after he was slid into by Kansas City teammate Drew Butera at a play at the plate in the ninth inning. The four-time All-Star was unable to put weight on his leg as he was carried off the field. Perez has been an iron man in recent years, starting at least 126 games behind the plate in four straight seasons, and an extended absence would be a major blow to the Royals.
