Analysis: The deal buys out Guyer's two remaining arbitration years with the option covering his first eligible year of free agency. The soon-to-be 31-year-old hit .333 in 38 games for the AL champion Indians after being acquired from Tampa Bay at the Aug. 1 deadline. He batted .336 overall against left-handed pitching last season while leading the majors by being hit by a pitch 31 times.

Analysis: The righty-hitting Guyer started against lefty David Price after sitting out Game 1 against Boston righty Rick Porcello. So it seems possible he'll be back on the bench for Game 3 with the Red Sox starting right-hander Clay Buchholz, but if there's a Game 4, he could return to the lineup because Boston is scheduled to start southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez.
