Analysis: Descalso was hit on the left hand by a pitch in spring training, and an MRI revealed Descalso has an avulsion fracture. Descalso had played some shortstop with the Rockies, looking to replace Jose Reyes, who's on paid leave while he faces domestic violence charges. Descalso hit .205 in 101 games with Colorado last season and is in the final season of a two-year deal.
