Analysis: Nava has spent most of the past month in the minors after being designated for assignment by the club July 30. The 33-year-old hit .235 with one home run and 13 RBIs in 45 games with the Angels. Nava is expected to report to Triple-A Omaha before possibly joining the Royals as a September call-up.

Analysis: Nava was hitting .286 through 14 at-bats in eight games this season. Angels manager Mike Scioscia says the knee gave Nava trouble in spring training before flaring up during L.A.'s series in Oakland this week. Nava pinch hit in the ninth inning of Friday night's loss at Minnesota.
