Feb. 20 2:11 PM PT3:11 PM MT4:11 PM CT5:11 PM ET17:11 ET22:11 GMT6:11 CST3:11 PM MST5:11 PM EST5:41 PM VEN2:11 UAE (+1)4:11 PM CT-Leake cut his long hair before the start of spring training, and that's not the only major change for the right-hander. The 25-year-old right-hander is no longer assured a spot in the rotation. That fifth starter's spot is open to competition between Leake and left-hander Aroldis Chapman, who is getting a chance to move from the closer's role into the rotation.
Analysis: Leake went 8-9 with a 4.56 ERA last season and got hit hard in his one playoff appearance. Overall, it was a disappointment he's gotten over by not dwelling on it too much. Barring injury, the rest of the rotation is set with right-handers Johnny Cueto, Mat Latos, Bronson Arroyo and Homer Bailey. General manager Walt Jocketty would like to add a left-hander to the rotation.
Feb. 6 12:13 PM PT1:13 PM MT2:13 PM CT3:13 PM ET15:13 ET20:13 GMT4:13 CST1:13 PM MST3:13 PM EST3:43 PM VEN0:13 UAE (+1)2:13 PM CT-The Reds have agreed to a one-year deal, $3.06 million deal with Leake, avoiding salary arbitration with their fifth starter. The deal on Wednesday leaves three Reds still facing arbitration: starters Mat Latos and Homer Bailey and outfielder Shin-Soo Choo.
Analysis: Leake made $507,500 last season, when he went 8-9 with a 4.58 earned run average in 30 starts, a career high. He asked for $3.5 million in arbitration, and the club offered $2,650,000. He will compete with left-hander Aroldis Chapman for a spot in the rotation. He will make an additional $25,000 if he reaches 180 innings pitched.
