Analysis: The agreement Thursday includes $1 million in available performance bonuses for Storen, who was among six extra players eligible for salary arbitration this winter under baseball's new labor deal. Storen saved 43 games for the Nationals in 2011. He missed more than half of last season after having elbow surgery in April, but reclaimed the closer job for the NL East champions down the stretch and finished 3-1 with a 2.37 ERA and four saves in 37 appearances.

Analysis: Under the labor contract agreed to last November, the top 22 percent of players by service time with at least two years but less than three are eligible for arbitration along with the 3-to-6 year players. From 1991 through last year, the top 17 percent in the 2-to-3-year group had been eligible. The cutoff was 2 years, 139 days, down from what would have been 2 years, 144 days under the old rule.

Analysis: Nationals manager Davey Johnson says Storen's elbow felt tender after the right-hander threw a simulated game Sunday at the team's spring training complex in Viera, Fla. Storen, who saved 43 games last year in his first full major league season, is on the 15-day disabled list and Washington had hoped he would be able to return this month. Johnson, however, said Monday that Storen's setback ``doesn't sound good.''
