Analysis: Strasburg's 54th big league start was his first professional appearance at Petco Park. The big right-hander went to high school in suburban Santee and pitched for Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn at San Diego State before the Nationals took him with the first overall pick in the 2009 amateur draft. He pitched twice at Petco Park for SDSU. The win was Strasburg's first since the season opener April 1. |

Analysis: Strasburg (1-5, 3.10 ERA) set down Chicago's first 11 hitters, six via strikeout. But with two outs in the fifth, third baseman Zimmerman's off-target throw put a runner on. Turned out to be Strasburg's last inning, making for his shortest outing of 2013. The NL All-Star's only win this season came April 1 on opening day against the lowly Miami Marlins, but he entered Saturday with a 3.45 ERA and was averaging 6 1-3 innings per start. |

Strasburg had some discomfort in his right arm during a start Monday night against the Braves. While manager Davey Johnson was initially concerned it could be something serious, it appears Strasburg had nothing more than an irritated nerve from using an electrical stimulation machine. Analysis: Strasburg threw in the bullpen before Wednesday's game against the Braves, the normal routine for a starting pitcher. Johnson says the session went "great" and the pitcher "didn't have any discomfort." |
