Analysis: LaPorta hasn't lived up to expectations since he was acquired in 2008 from Milwaukee as part of the trade for ace CC Sabathia. LaPorta began last season in the minors after undergoing hip surgery. He batted .241 with one homer and five RBIs in 22 games. In four seasons with Cleveland, he's batted .238 with 31 homers and 120 RBIs. |

Analysis: LaPorta had the procedure on Thursday in Nashville, Tenn. The Indians said LaPorta, who spent most of last season at Triple-A Columbus, had a "debridement" of his left hip joint. LaPorta will need three to four months to recover and is expected to be unrestricted for the beginning of exhibition play. |

Analysis: LaPorta hit .167 with two RBIs in 14 games this spring. The first baseman, outfielder Michael Brantley and pitchers Zach Jackson and Rob Bryson were obtained for 2007 Cy Young award winner Sabathia in July 2008. Expected to be a power bat in the middle of the order, LaPorta has struggled in parts of three years for Cleveland, batting just .238 in 269 games, with 30 homers and 115 RBIs. |
