Analysis: With right-hander Miguel Gonzalez expected to be recalled soon after throwing a 75-pitch simulated game Monday for Double-A Bowie, the Orioles needed to clear a spot in the rotation for his impending return from the minor leagues. Jimenez, 30, has struggled in his first year with the Orioles after signing a four-year, $50 million contract before the season. He's 4-9 with a 4.83 ERA and has walked 66 batters, tops in the American League.

Jimenez (1-4) allowed only three hits while taking a significant step forward from five rough starts to begin his $50 million, four-year contract with the Orioles. Jimenez dropped his ERA from 6.59 to 5.19, after leaving with one out in the eighth following Eduardo Escobar's double.

In order to sign the 30-year-old right-hander, Baltimore must give up its first-round draft choice, the 17th pick overall, in June's draft.
Analysis: Jimenez is expected to join the Orioles' starting staff, which includes Chris Tillman, Wei-Yin Chen, Miguel Gonzalez and Bud Norris. Last season, Jimenez went 13-9 with a 3.30 ERA for the Indians. His best year came in 2010 when he was 19-8 with a 2.88 ERA for Colorado and was the NL starter in the All-Star Game.
