Dating to 1914, he's the first Cubs left-hander to fan 14 in a game.
Analysis: The 6-foot-4 left-hander struck out seven of his first eight hitters and nine of the first 14. He allowed two runs, five hits and one walk in eight innings. Cubs manager Joe Maddon saluted Lester's most impressive outing since he signed a six-year, $155 million free agent deal with Chicago in the offseason.

Analysis: The Chicago Cubs pitcher came up in the second inning Monday night and hit a low liner that ricocheted off the leg of St. Louis Cardinals right-hander John Lackey, a former teammate with the Boston Red Sox. The ball caromed away toward shortstop, leaving the Cardinals with no play on an infield single that loaded the bases for Chicago. Coming into the game, Lester was 0 for 30 this season.

Analysis: Lester is 0-4 with a 4.43 ERA in seven games since his last victory. It's safe to say he's been a bust thus far in Chicago, going 4-6 with a 4.03 ERA, though his opponents' .332 BABIP suggests he's also been the victim of some bad luck.
