Papelbon was ejected by Joe West after the umpire thought Papelbon grabbed his crotch while walking off the field after blowing a save.
Analysis: Papelbon said in a statement Monday night that he would immediately begin serving the suspension given by the commissioner's office and that he was sorry for making contact with West on Sunday. But the right-hander says that he wasn't making a gesture toward fans as he walked off the field to boos in the ninth inning of Philadelphia's 5-4, home loss to the Miami Marlins. He apologized to Phillies fans in the statement.

Analysis: Papelbon allowed three runs and four hits while recording one out. He thought he had induced a double-play grounder to clinch a victory for the Philadelphia Phillies but instead watched Leonys Martin's single drive in the tying run. "The whole inning was kind of just one of those innings," Papelbon said. "You get a cue ball down the third base line. Then you get a double play ball, which you think is the game-ending double play. It's not."
