Analysis: Verlander, who didn't pitch until mid-June because of a right triceps injury, is 0-1 with a 6.17 ERA in two starts. Verlander said he felt the stiffness during his start against the Yankees on Saturday. Manager Brad Ausmus said that he didn't think the injury was serious, but he didn't know when Verlander would make his next start.

Analysis: Verlander allowed a homer to Alex Rodriguez for the disgraced slugger's 3,000th career hit. Verlander gave up six runs and 10 hits in 6 2-3 innings. He fell to 0-4 at the new Yankee Stadium. "I don't ever want to give up a hit. So I definitely don't want to be a part of the history that way," he said.

Analysis: The former MVP and Cy Young award winner, who had been on the disabled list with a right triceps strain since the start of the season, left with a 3-2 lead after pitching five innings before the bullpen collapsed in a loss. Verlander's hardest pitch was timed at 97 mph so he has still got it. "It was nice to be back out there," he said.

His recovery suffered several setbacks before the last couple weeks. He has made two rehab starts for Triple-A Toledo, and only allowed one run on four hits and no walks in 5 2/3 innings Saturday against Columbus.

Analysis: His ERA inflated to 6.08. "I have work to do on my slider," Verlander said. "My slider has been about 50-50. I still have some tinkering to do before opening day." Fantasy players may want to tinker and look elsewhere for a starter.
