Analysis: The Nationals said Tuesday that Wang has a strained right hip. His move to the DL is retroactive to July 1. He is 2-3 with a 7.61 ERA in seven games this season and recently lost his spot in the starting rotation to Ross Detwiler. Wang also missed the first 42 games of the season with a left hamstring injury.

Analysis: Washington manager Davey Johnson announced the move prior to Wednesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Wang had his worst outing of the season Tuesday night, lasting just 3 1-3 innings and giving up five runs on seven hits and three walks in a 5-4 loss to Tampa Bay. His record fell to 2-3 and his ERA rose to 6.10.

Analysis: A left hamstring injury in spring training has kept Wang out all season. He is expected to pitch out of the bullpen. The right-hander went 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA last season after needing almost two years to come back from shoulder surgery.

Analysis: Wang fielded a slow roller by Martin and tried to make the play at first base. Wang stumbled toward the bag and fell as he was touching the base. The pitcher's leg went up in the air and was hit by Martin, who was running up the line. Wang walked off the field under his own power. The right-hander spent five years with the Yankees and won 19 games in 2006 and 2007.
