Analysis: Cain pulled himself from the game, fearing a balky hamstring that had lingered in 2016 had started acting up again. However, after the game, Cain reported his hamstring was already feeling better, and X-rays on his foot were negative. The veteran right-hander has surrendered a total of two runs in his last three starts - a span of 18 innings.

Analysis: Cain had not won in April since 2012 - a span of 19 starts - before beating the Diamondbacks for the 15th time in his career. Cain (1-0) overcame a shaky start after allowing a run in the first inning and retired 10 of 11 during one stretch. The right-hander struck out six and walked three before leaving after giving up a leadoff double and a walk to open the sixth.

The injury-plagued right-hander allowed two homers and four runs and walked three prior to departing.
Analysis: Cain has posted lousy ERAs of 5.64 and 5.79 in the past two seasons, and Friday's effort doesn't inspire confidence that the 32-year-old is primed for a bounce-back in 2017.
