Grilli, 38, was an All-Star closer for Pittsburgh in 2013 and is expected to fill a setup role for closer Craig Kimbrel.
Analysis: He gets $4.25 million this year and $3.5 million in 2016, and Atlanta has a $3 million option for 2017 with a $250,000 buyout. Grilli can earn $300,000 annually based on games pitched: $100,000 each for 56, 60 and 64. He also can make $4 million based on games finished: $500,000 apiece for 30 and each additional five through 55, and $1 million for 60.

Analysis: The 38-year-old right-hander will fill a setup role for closer Craig Kimbrel. Grilli was an All-Star closer for the Pirates in 2013, when he had 33 saves. He lost his stopper job before he was traded to the Angels on June 27, 2014. He finished with a combined 12 saves and 4.00 ERA last season.

Analysis: The 37-year-old Grilli was struggled with his command this season, and was 0-2 with a 4.87 ERA and 11 saves in 22 appearances. But he was pivotal to the Pirates' resurgence last year, when he piled up 33 saves and had a 2.70 ERA in helping the club to a 94-68 record. Grilli is expected to join the Angels in Kansas City on Saturday.

Grilli allowed a tying homer to Devin Mesoraco in the ninth inning of Thursday's 4-3 victory over Cincinnati. He has blown four save opportunities this season after converting 33 of 35 chances a year ago.
Analysis: Speaking before Friday's game at the Cubs, Hurdle says Mark Melancon will close for now. He also says he could use Tony Watson in save opportunities.

Analysis: Grilli hasn't pitched since straining his left oblique in late April. Manager Clint Hurdle says the right-hander will make a couple of appearances in middle relief before the team determines whether to return Grilli to the back end of the bullpen. The 37-year-old is 0-1 with four saves in seven opportunities this year.
