Analysis: The 36-year-old Betancourt was already under contract for this season and had a $4.25 million mutual option for 2013. The Denver Post reported recently that the Rockies would pick up that option and add a club option for the same salary for 2014. The Venezuela native enters spring training as the Rockies' closer. He saved eight of nine games filling in for an injured Huston Street last August. The Rockies traded Street to San Diego in December. |
