Analysis: Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Batista "is going to add some depth for us, just in case.'' Gonzalez says Batista will be assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett. Batista was 1-3 with a 4.82 ERA in 30 games, including five starts, with the New York Mets this season. He was designated for assignment by the Mets on Sunday and cleared waivers on Friday.

Analysis: Batista warmed up to start the third but had to be replaced by right-hander Jeremy Hefner, who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo before the game. Batista, 41, complained of groin and hamstring pain following his previous start, May 14, when he beat Milwaukee with seven shutout innings. The former Blue Jay, who began the season in the bullpen, came in 1-1 with a 4.26 ERA.

Analysis: Batista has appeared in 10 games this season, making one start. He will be available out of the bullpen in the first two games of the three-game series against Arizona but Collins said the Mets will have to bring up a reliever Sunday.
