Analysis: The right-hander made only four starts with Philadelphia last season before being shut down in late April by a torn left hamstring. Morton, 46-71 with a 4.54 ERA over nine seasons with Atlanta, Pittsburgh and the Phillies, should work near the back of the Astros' rotation if he can stay healthy. He's thrown 129 innings or less in four of the past five seasons.

Analysis: The Philadelphia Phillies said that Morton is scheduled for surgery on the hamstring next Monday. Recovery time is expected to be six to eight months. Morton was injured while running out of the batter's box on a sacrifice attempt during at Milwaukee on Saturday and went on the 15-day disabled list a day later.

Analysis: Morton bunted the ball in front of the mound, where it was fielded by Milwaukee pitcher Chase Anderson. He threw to second for the first out, and as Morton ran toward first, he stumbled and fell well short of the base. Morton allowed a run on three hits and had three strikeouts in one inning. He's 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA this season.
