Analysis: Hernandez will end an injury-plagued season on a good note after holding the A's to one run over six innings Monday to earn his first victory since July 15. "He's at the end of the year, so I don't know what the benefit is of running him out there right now. We've got young pitchers we want to take a look at," manager Scott Servais said. The veteran righty finished 6-5 with a 4.36 ERA in 16 starts, failing to post double-digit wins for the first time since 2008.
Sep. 26 9:07 AM PT10:07 AM MT11:07 AM CT12:07 PM ET12:07 ET16:07 GMT0:07 9:07 AM MST11:07 AM EST11:37 AM VEN20:07 UAE11:07 AM CT-Felix Hernandez improved to 6-5, allowing one run on two hits and two walks in 6.0 innings, as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Oakland Athletics 7-1 on Monday. Hernandez struck out two, ending the game with a 4.36 ERA and 1.29 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: King Felix hadn't won since July 15, a stretch that included a stint on the disabled list from Aug. 2 to Sept. 13 with right shoulder bursitis. He had a 7.00 ERA in his previous four starts. The 31-year-old Hernandez became the fifth active pitcher to log more 2,500 innings and joined Justin Verlander as the only ones to do it with one team.
Sep. 21 8:44 AM PT9:44 AM MT10:44 AM CT11:44 AM ET11:44 ET15:44 GMT23:44 8:44 AM MST10:44 AM EST11:14 AM VEN19:44 UAE10:44 AM CT-Felix Hernandez fell to 5-5, allowing six runs - five earned - on two hits and three walks in 3.1 innings, as the Seattle Mariners lost to the Texas Rangers 8-6 on Wednesday. Hernandez struck out four, ending the game with a 4.57 ERA and 1.34 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: Hernandez has allowed seven runs in seven innings since returning from the disabled list.
Sep. 15 9:55 AM PT10:55 AM MT11:55 AM CT12:55 PM ET12:55 ET16:55 GMT0:55 9:55 AM MST11:55 AM EST12:25 PM VEN20:55 UAE11:55 AM CT-Felix Hernandez allowed one run on three hits in 3.2 innings as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Texas Rangers 10-4 on Thursday. Hernandez struck out three, ending the game with a 4.19 ERA and 1.33 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: Hernandez pitched well in his first start since being put on the disabled list with right shoulder bursitis on Aug. 5. Manager Scott Servais said he was hoping for just three innings. Hernandez was on a pitch count, throwing 54 pitches, and it's unclear how much that will be upped his next time out.
Aug. 5 10:16 AM PT11:16 AM MT12:16 PM CT1:16 PM ET13:16 ET17:16 GMT1:16 10:16 AM MST12:16 PM EST12:46 PM VEN21:16 UAE12:16 PM CT-Hernandez has been activated from the 10-day DL after missing more than a month with right shoulder bursitis, and he will start Thursday against the Rangers.
Analysis: Hernandez had gone on the DL with biceps tendinitis, but tests performed Monday revealed a more serious problem. The fading former ace missed six-plus weeks with the same shoulder issue earlier this season, so it seems that he is a very risky fantasy play going forward. He last pitched July 31, also against Texas, and he allowed four runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Hernandez struck out four, ending the game with a 4.08 ERA and 1.33 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: Hernandez had a 1.00 ERA over his previous three starts before this outing, which threw a bit of cold water on the idea that he had regained his Cy Young form.
July 21 11:10 PM PT12:10 AM MT1:10 AM CT2:10 AM ET2:10 ET6:10 GMT14:10 11:10 PM MST1:10 AM EST1:40 AM VEN10:10 UAE1:10 AM CT-Felix Hernandez fell to 5-4, allowing one run on three hits and two walks in 7.0 innings, as the Seattle Mariners lost to the New York Yankees 4-1 on Thursday. Hernandez struck out nine, ending the game with a 3.88 ERA and 1.36 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: Despite allowing a home run to Brett Gardner and the defeat, Hernandez has yielded two earned runs over 18 innings of his last three starts.
July 16 9:24 AM PT10:24 AM MT11:24 AM CT12:24 PM ET12:24 ET16:24 GMT0:24 9:24 AM MST11:24 AM EST11:54 AM VEN20:24 UAE11:24 AM CT-Felix Hernandez improved to 5-3, allowing three runs - one earned - on six hits in 5.0 innings, as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Chicago White Sox 4-3 on Saturday. Hernandez struck out five, ending the game with a 4.20 ERA and 1.44 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: Hernandez didn't look like the same pitcher earlier this season, and he hasn't been great since his injury either. He now has a 5.00 ERA on the road.
July 9 5:35 PM PT6:35 PM MT7:35 PM CT8:35 PM ET20:35 ET0:35 GMT8:35 5:35 PM MST7:35 PM EST8:05 PM VEN4:35 UAE (+1)7:35 PM CT-Felix Hernandez improved to 4-3, allowing two hits and three walks over 6.0 scoreless innings, as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Oakland Athletics 4-0 on Sunday. Hernandez struck out eight, ending the game with a 4.44 ERA and 1.46 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: The right-hander, who was making his fourth start since coming off the disabled list -- he was out from April 26 to June 22 with inflammation in his right shoulder -- lowered his ERA from 5.04. The only hits Hernandez allowed were a one-out double to Matt Joyce in the third inning and a two-out single to Jaycob Brugman in the fifth.
July 4 8:30 PM PT9:30 PM MT10:30 PM CT11:30 PM ET23:30 ET3:30 GMT11:30 8:30 PM MST10:30 PM EST11:00 PM VEN7:30 UAE (+1)10:30 PM CT-Hernandez fell to 3-3, allowing six runs - five earned - on six hits and four walks in 6.0 innings, as the Seattle Mariners lost to the Kansas City Royals 7-3 on Tuesday. Hernandez struck out five, ending the game with a 5.04 ERA and 1.54 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: Hernandez struck out five, becoming the 50th pitcher in Major League history to reach 2,300 strikeouts. It was the worst of his three starts since coming off the disabled list.
June 29 7:12 AM PT8:12 AM MT9:12 AM CT10:12 AM ET10:12 ET14:12 GMT22:12 7:12 AM MST9:12 AM EST9:42 AM VEN18:12 UAE9:12 AM CT-Felix Hernandez allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in 6.0 innings as the Seattle Mariners lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 on Wednesday. Hernandez struck out five, ending the game with a 4.66 ERA and 1.53 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: Hernandez's second start off the DL was much like his first, except for the fact he earned a win after permitting three runs over six innings against Houston last Friday. Though the former Cy Young winner has shown he can still keep the Mariners in games, his days as an elite fantasy pitcher seem to be dwindling.
Apr. 25 8:39 PM PT9:39 PM MT10:39 PM CT11:39 PM ET23:39 ET3:39 GMT11:39 8:39 PM MST10:39 PM EST11:09 PM VEN7:39 UAE (+1)10:39 PM CT-Making his first start since April 25, Hernandez improved to 3-2 after allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk in 6.0 innings as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Houston Astros 13-3 on Friday. Hernandez struck out six, ending the game with a 4.68 ERA and 1.56 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: Hernandez, who had been sidelined with right shoulder inflammation, did allow a pair of homers but turned in a decent performance in his return. The Mariners have been scoring runs in droves lately, so the former AL Cy Young winner should be a solid fantasy play as long as he can stay healthy.
Apr. 20 9:09 AM PT10:09 AM MT11:09 AM CT12:09 PM ET12:09 ET16:09 GMT0:09 9:09 AM MST11:09 AM EST11:39 AM VEN20:09 UAE11:09 AM CT-Despite giving up four runs and 12 hits Wednesday, Hernandez got a second straight victory as he lasted 6 1/3 innings in a 10-5 victory over the Marlins.
Analysis: Hernandez struck out five and issued his first walk of 2017 to Giancarlo Stanton in the fifth inning, ending a streak of 22 1/3 innings to open the season. Hernandez also tied Freddy Garcia for most wins by a Venezuelan-born pitcher with 156. "I knew I didn't have my best stuff today but I was going to battle and stay in as long as I can," Hernandez said.
Apr. 15 8:58 AM PT9:58 AM MT10:58 AM CT11:58 AM ET11:58 ET15:58 GMT23:58 8:58 AM MST10:58 AM EST11:28 AM VEN19:58 UAE10:58 AM CT-Hernandez allowed one run and six hits, striking out three and walking none over 7 1/3 innings in a 2-1 win over the Rangers on Friday.
Analysis: Hernandez has yet to walk a batter in 18 1/3 innings this season.
Apr. 9 8:46 AM PT9:46 AM MT10:46 AM CT11:46 AM ET11:46 ET15:46 GMT23:46 8:46 AM MST10:46 AM EST11:16 AM VEN19:46 UAE10:46 AM CT-Hernandez struck out six in six innings in his second start of the season, though he was reached for three runs and 10 hits while not getting a decision in the Mariners' loss to the Angels.
Analysis: The Seattle ace is 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA through his first two outings to help add to the notion that he's a pitcher on the downside of his career. Hernandez faces a longtime nemesis, the Texas Rangers, at home on Friday in his next start.
Apr. 5 10:03 AM PT11:03 AM MT12:03 PM CT1:03 PM ET13:03 ET17:03 GMT1:03 10:03 AM MST12:03 PM EST12:33 PM VEN21:03 UAE12:03 PM CT-Hernandez, who left Monday's start after the fifth inning with tightness in a groin, was still dealing with the problem Tuesday.
Analysis: However, he expects to take his next turn in the rotation.
Apr. 4 8:11 AM PT9:11 AM MT10:11 AM CT11:11 AM ET11:11 ET15:11 GMT23:11 8:11 AM MST10:11 AM EST10:41 AM VEN19:11 UAE10:11 AM CT-Hernandez allowed two runs and five hits while striking out six in five innings before leaving with tightness in a groin in Seattle's 3-0 opening-day loss to the Astros.
Analysis: Hernandez pulled up after racing to cover first base for the second out of the fourth inning on Josh Reddick's grounder. Hernandez was looked at by trainers and threw a couple of warmup pitches before finishing the inning. Hernandez said he will make his next turn in the rotation. ''It just got a little tight,'' he said. ''I'll be all right. I'm going to be OK.''
