General manager Sandy Alderson said Tuesday the Mets captain will report to the team's Florida complex in January, a month or more ahead of spring training. Wright, who turns 34 on Dec. 20, had surgery June 16 to repair a herniated disk in his neck and is in California.
Analysis: Alderson said Wright's activities included running, getting in crouches and moving laterally, but not swinging a bat or even emulating a swing. Wright plans to report to Port St. Lucie, Florida, in early to mid-January. After missing much of 2015 with a strained right hamstring and spinal stenosis, Wright hit .226 this year with seven homers, 14 RBIs and 55 strikeouts in 137 at-bats.

Analysis: New York's captain had surgery June 16 to repair a herniated disk in his neck, rejoined the team Thursday and spoke Friday for the first time since the operation in California. Wright said ''the next three months, it's really not doing anything, it's letting the bones kind of fuse together and making sure that that happens in my neck so I'm healthy moving forward.''

It was the first game action of the spring for Wright, who says he was itching to get on the field, but also was nervous.
Analysis: The Mets third baseman was limited to 38 regular-season games last season because of a hamstring injury and spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal. After hurting his right leg April 14, he returned Aug. 24, and he was able to play in all 14 of the Mets postseason games as they reached the World Series for the first time since 2000.
