The teams announced the trade Thursday. Seattle sent minor league right-handed pitcher Enyel De Los Santos and minor league infielder Nelson Ward back to the Padres. After being the best bullpen in baseball in 2014, the Mariners relievers ranked 25th with a 4.15 ERA and had 24 blown saves.
Analysis: Benoit, 38, was 6-5 with a 2.34 ERA in 67 appearances last season for San Diego. Opponents hit just .159 against Benoit and he was especially tough on right-handed hitters, with a .144 batting average against him. It was the lowest of any NL pitcher who faced at least 100 batters.

Analysis: Benoit went 6-5 with two saves and a 2.34 ERA in 67 relief outings, his most wins six posting seven with Texas in 2007. He is 54-42 with a 3.84 ERA in 661 career appearances including 55 starts, during a 14-year career that had stops at Texas, Tampa Bay and Detroit. His contract had a $1 million buyout.
