AP Pro32 comments about Patriots
NEW YORK (AP) Comments on the New England Patriots by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
Chris Berman (ESPN, 8) - .500 after six games an eye opener.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 6) - Should be better than .500. It's odd to see them finding ways to lose.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 7)
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 8) - Still one of the better teams in the AFC despite loss in Seattle.
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 10) - Bill Belichick's defense lets him down in the fourth quarter, allowing two TDs in Seattle's dramatic comeback. No time like the present to try and wash that bad taste out: Pats host big-talking Rex Ryan's Jets on Sunday.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 9) - The Patriots aura in the 2000 decade allowed them to win most games by merely showing up. With losses this season to Arizona and Seattle, that's no longer the case.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 9) - I thought that defense was supposed to be fixed. The Pats have blown two big fourth-quarter leads the past month.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 8) - Even Tom Brady can't win shootouts every week with a defense this suspect.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 6) - A very tough loss to the Seahawks but their whole body of work suggests they are still an elite team. They do get a warning notice for three losses; another one and they slide.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 8) - The Pats shockingly can't put consistent efforts on the field in successive weeks. Their secondary is struggling to stop the big play as well.
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 8) - The secondary looks just as vulnerable as in 2011.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 9) - You can't win Super Bowls playing the kind of defense the Patriots are playing.
