AP Pro32 comments about Buccaneers
NEW YORK (AP) Comments on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
Chris Berman (ESPN, 23) - Drafting Eric LeGrand - a good luck charm.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 25) - Greg Schiano began his NFL coaching career in fine fashion. But beating an angry Giants team will be tough.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 18) - Hard-nosed defensive line play a pleasant surprise.
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 23) - Tough and more physical under Schiano. Watch out for this team in second half of season.
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 18) - Looks like Greg Schiano's discipline is paying early dividends. Nice home win over the Panthers. Easy does it on the expectations, though. Remember, this is a team that lost 10 straight to finish off last season.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 22) - RB Doug Martin could wind up being one of the steals of the draft late in the first round.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 18) - I'm not sure what to read into the Bucs' upset of Carolina, but one thing I like: Those mistakes that bedeviled Josh Freeman a year ago were missing ... and look what happened.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 20) - As new coach Greg Schiano returns to his Jersey roots, Tampa Bay's defense looked like a blast from the past against Carolina.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 19) - My hat's off to new coach Greg Schiano and his old school football approach. Freeman completed 16 passes for 138 yards (8.6 yards a completion). Tampa will have to play better but they don't look like a team that will beat themselves.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 24) - This team played extremely hard and very well in a big division win against the Panthers. Do they have the depth to sustain that kind of effort?
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 17) - New coach Greg Schiano's hard-nosed preseason practices paid off. The Buccaneers were the grittier team in last Sunday's 16-10 win over Carolina.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 20) - Who knew the Bucs could play defense like they did Sunday?
