AP Pro32 comments about Raiders
NEW YORK (AP) Comments on the Oakland Raiders by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
Chris Berman (ESPN, 22) - Everything is new for Silver & Black; anything is possible in this division.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 28) - Dennis Allen hopes he lasts longer than recent predecessors as coach.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 25) - After finishing 8-8 last 2 years, Raiders trying to take next step with new coach Dennis Allen.
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 26) - Very disappointed in Carson Palmer and the passing game...expected better.
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 20) - In division that could be up for grabs, Raiders have chance to surprise. Defense can be decent, but Carson Palmer has to do his part by not turning ball over.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 20) - Raiders have brutal travel schedule this fall with five trips to Eastern time zone.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 23) - Raiders have right idea, but will take at least a year for these guys to break through.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 26) - Same old, same old. Pride & Poise gang will spring a few upsets along way and beat themselves in other games before settling in at corner of 6th and 10th.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 24) - Paper thin with all roster moves needed to clean up contract problems. If they stay healthy, they will compete. A few injuries and it will be waiting until 2013.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 24) - Believe Raiders found winner in new coach Dennis Allen. RB Darren McFadden's return helps, but much rests on QB Carson Palmer. Is he Pro Bowler or guy who threw 16 picks in 10 games as Raider?
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 23) - Preseason struggles of quarterback Carson Palmer were alarming, but at least he has healthy Darren McFadden to carry rushing load. Defensive line looks stout as well.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 18) - Might take some time for Dennis Allen's program to start hitting on all cylinders, but there is some talent here.
