AP source: Jets LG Matt Slauson takes pay cut
By DENNIS WASZAK Jr.
NEW YORK (AP) A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press that New York Jets left guard Matt Slauson has agreed to take a pay cut, reducing his salary by about $258,000 this season.
Slauson's entire salary of $1.05 million for this season is now guaranteed - believed to be a major reason the offensive lineman accepted the restructured deal last week, according to the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the new deal.
Slauson was scheduled to earn $1.31 million in the final year of his rookie contract.
The Star-Ledger of Newark first reported the restructured deal Thursday.
Coach Rex Ryan indicated Wednesday that Slauson, a starter the last two seasons, had beat out Vladimir Ducasse for the starting job at left guard.
