Colts take Mississippi St. RB in 5th round

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The Indianapolis Colts have taken Mississippi State running back Vick Ballard in the fifth round of the NFL draft.

Ballard is listed at 5-foot-10, 217 pounds. His breakout season came in 2010 when he scored a school record 20 touchdowns, 19 of those on the ground, averaged 5.2 yards per carry and finished with 968 yards rushing. Last season, he carried 193 times for 1,189 yards, a 6.2 average, and scored 10 touchdowns.

He also gained publicity during the NFL's annual scouting combine when he tripped during the 40-yard dash and fell into a camera.

The Colts have used five of their first six draft picks on offensive players. Earlier in the fifth round, they selected 316-pound defensive tackle Josh Chapman from Alabama.

Indy still had four picks left.
