Panthers take WR Adams from Arkansas in NFL draft

By STEVE REED

AP Sports Writer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) The Panthers selected wide receiver Joe Adams from Arkansas with the second of back-to-back picks in the fourth round, giving Cam Newton another weapon on offense.

A four-year starter for the Razorbacks, Adams had his most productive season in 2011 as a senior with 54 catches for 652 yards.

Adams has an explosive burst and impressive ability to run after the catch.

It's unclear where he'll fit for the Panthers.

They re-signed Steve Smith to a long-term contract this offseason, but didn't re-sign Legedu Naanee. Number three receiver Brandon LaFell is coming off a solid season and is expected to be a major part of the offense. Also, wide receiver David Gettis is expected to return from a torn ACL and could compete with LaFell for a starting position.
