Hoyer tore his right anterior cruciate ligament on Oct. 3 against Buffalo.
Analysis: It was a devastating injury for the career backup who grew up in Cleveland and was living out his dream of playing for his hometown team. Hoyer said the normal recovery time on the injury is six to eight months, but he's shooting to be recovered on the "lower end" of that timetable.

A team spokesman said the surgery went well and that the 28-year-old Hoyer is expected to make a full recovery.
Analysis: Hoyer led the Browns to two wins after replacing injured starter Brandon Weeden. Hoyer got hurt when he slid awkwardly at the end of a scramble on Oct. 3 against Buffalo. A Cleveland-area native who grew up cheering for the Browns, Hoyer signed a two-year contract with the team in May. Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said he hopes Hoyer can re-join the team for workouts next spring.

Analysis: Hoyer has gone 2-0 since replacing injured starter Brandon Weeden, who sprained his thumb in Week 2. Chudzinski said Monday that Weeden is healthy and been cleared to play, but he's going to stick with Hoyer, who led the Browns to a 17-6 win over Cincinnati on Sunday in his third NFL start.

Filling in for an injured Brandon Weeden, Hoyer led the Browns to a 31-27 win on Sunday at Minnesota.
Analysis: Coach Rob Chudzinski will play him again because Weeden has not completely recovered from a sprained right thumb. Chudzinski expects Weeden will throw this week and he'll evaluate the quarterback situation on a "week to week basis."

Cleveland surprisingly decided to go with Hoyer over more experienced backup Jason Campbell.

Hoyer was third on the Browns' depth chart all summer and inactive in Cleveland's first two regular-season games. He started the exhibition finale after Campbell fell ill before the game in Chicago. Hoyer completed 24 of 35 passes for 307 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.
