|Feb. 15 7:02 AM PT8:02 AM MT9:02 AM CT10:02 AM ET15:02 GMT11:02 PM 北京时间8:02 AM MST10:02 AM EST9:02 AM CT19:02 UAE10:02 ET - The Jets placed the franchise tag on Harris on Tuesday, the first time the team has used the designation since 2006.Harris, who made a base salary of $550,000 in the final year of his rookie deal, was voted the team MVP by his teammates after having 99 tackles and three sacks in his fourth season.
Analysis: General manager Mike Tannenbaum recently said re-signing Harris was a priority, and the Jets could still lock him up to a long-term deal once the NFL's uncertain labor situation is cleared up despite placing the franchise tag on him. By using the tag, the Jets must pay Harris the average of the top five salaries among linebackers. Last year, Harris' position was worth about $9.6 million, meaning he could be in for a payday of $10 million or slightly higher.
|Feb. 6 11:13 AM PT12:13 PM MT1:13 PM CT2:13 PM ET19:13 GMT3:13 AM 北京时间12:13 PM MST2:13 PM EST1:13 PM CT23:13 UAE14:13 ET - Harris will likely have the franchise tag placed on him by the New York Jets, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.
Analysis: Harris, voted the team MVP this season by his teammates, is due to become a free agent but the Jets are leaning toward using the tag, according to the person who spoke on condition of anonymity Sunday because the team had not announced the move. Harris had 99 tackles and three sacks in his fourth season, and is a valuable signal-caller in the middle of Rex Ryan's aggressive defense. Harris has 422 tackles and 15 sacks in four seasons.
