The Cardinals are placing Peterson on injured reserve, the 32-year-old former NFL MVP and seven-time Pro Bowler confirmed in a statement Friday to ESPN's Josina Anderson.
Analysis: Peterson, who missed the past two games, was injured in Week 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 26. Coach Bruce Arians said this week he wasn't sure whether Peterson would return from the injury and there had been no improvement in his condition. Peterson rushed for 529 yards and two touchdowns through 10 games this season, including 448 yards and both scores since being traded to Arizona from the New Orleans Saints.

He posted the most carries ever for a player in his 30s and topped the 100-yard mark for the second time since being acquired in a trade last month. Peterson reached the 12,000-yard rushing mark in his 130th career game, fourth fastest in NFL history. Peterson also moved into 15th place on the career list with 12,142 yards, passing Thurman Thomas.

|Oct. 15, 2017 4:48 PM PT5:48 PM MT6:48 PM CT7:48 PM ET23:48 GMT7:48 4:48 PM MST6:48 PM EST6:48 PM CT3:48 UAE (+1)19:48 ETNaN: - Adrian Peterson ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries Sunday in the Arizona Cardinals' 38-33 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Analysis: Peterson, acquired in a trade with New Orleans on Tuesday, gained 47 more yards on Sunday than the 87 he had in four games with the Saints. Arizona ran for 160 yards after averaging 52 yards rushing through five games, by far the worst in the league. Peterson's 134 yards was his best total since he had 158 for Minnesota at Atlanta on Nov. 29, 2015.
|Oct. 10, 2017 8:22 AM PT9:22 AM MT10:22 AM CT11:22 AM ET15:22 GMT23:22 8:22 AM MST10:22 AM EST10:22 AM CT19:22 UAE11:22 ETNaN: - The Arizona Cardinals acquired Peterson from the New Orleans Saints for a conditional draft pick, ESPN's Dianna Russini reported on Tuesday, citing sources.
Analysis: Peterson has turned 27 carries into just 81 rushing yards in four games this season with the Saints, with whom he signed a two-year contract in the offseason. The 32-year-old spent his first 10 years in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings before his option was not picked up by the club on Feb. 28. Arizona has struggled to receive consistent production out of its backfield on the heels of superstar David Johnson dislocating his wrist in the team's season opener.

Analysis: It remains to be seen just how much longer Peterson remains in New Orleans. He obviously does not fit in this offense.
|Sep. 28, 2017 8:25 AM PT9:25 AM MT10:25 AM CT11:25 AM ET15:25 GMT23:25 8:25 AM MST10:25 AM EST10:25 AM CT19:25 UAE11:25 ETNaN: - Peterson (knee) is not on the injury report and will play in Week 4. He was a full participant in practice Friday after sitting out Thursday.
Analysis: The 32-year-old Peterson is adjusting to playing in a reduced role for the Saints this season. Peterson rushed nine times for 33 yards in New Orleans' 34-13 romp over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The 2012 NFL Most Valuable Player has rushed for 77 yards total and just 3.3 per carry this season.
|Sep. 24, 2017 1:45 PM PT2:45 PM MT3:45 PM CT4:45 PM ET20:45 GMT4:45 1:45 PM MST3:45 PM EST3:45 PM CT0:45 UAE (+1)16:45 ETNaN: - Adrian Peterson ran for 33 yards on nine carries Sunday in the New Orleans Saints' 34-13 win over the Carolina Panthers. He added two receptions for four yards.

|Sep. 17, 2017 2:02 PM PT3:02 PM MT4:02 PM CT5:02 PM ET21:02 GMT5:02 2:02 PM MST4:02 PM EST4:02 PM CT1:02 UAE (+1)17:02 ETNaN: - Adrian Peterson ran for 26 yards on eight carries Sunday in the New Orleans Saints' 36-20 loss to the New England Patriots.
Analysis: With the Saints' backfield situation a mess, Peterson really can't be trusted as a fantasy starter.
|Sep. 11, 2017 7:25 PM PT8:25 PM MT9:25 PM CT10:25 PM ET2:25 GMT10:25 7:25 PM MST9:25 PM EST9:25 PM CT6:25 UAE (+1)22:25 ETNaN: - Adrian Peterson ran for 18 yards on six carries Monday in the New Orleans Saints' 29-19 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Analysis: Peterson's return to Minnesota wasn't very enjoyable as he failed to generate much of anything against his former team. He had a 9-yaed run on his first carry of the night, but did very little thereafter. This game proved that Peterson won't be much of a factor if the Saints are behind, and that could be the case more often than not if their defense doesn't show vast improvement from the opener.
|Aug. 27, 2017 9:56 AM PT10:56 AM MT11:56 AM CT12:56 PM ET16:56 GMT0:56 9:56 AM MST11:56 AM EST11:56 AM CT20:56 UAE12:56 ETNaN: - Adrian Peterson made his Saints preseason debut on Saturday night, totaling 15 yards on six carries which each went for 2 or 3 yards. He had one catch for a 1-yard loss.
Analysis: Peterson's carries were his first in the preseason since 2011.
|Apr. 25, 2017 6:59 AM PT7:59 AM MT8:59 AM CT9:59 AM ET13:59 GMT21:59 6:59 AM MST8:59 AM EST8:59 AM CT17:59 UAE9:59 ETNaN: - Peterson has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with the New Orleans Saints.
Analysis: Peterson has spent his entire 10-year NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, surpassing 1,000 yards rushing in a season seven times and 2,000 yards once. However, he played in only three games last season before being sidelined by a knee injury.
|Apr. 2, 2017 2:44 PM PT3:44 PM MT4:44 PM CT5:44 PM ET21:44 GMT5:44 2:44 PM MST4:44 PM EST4:44 PM CT1:44 UAE (+1)17:44 ETNaN: - Peterson is scheduled to meet with the New England Patriots on Monday, ESPN reports.
Analysis: Peterson became an unrestricted free agent when the Vikings did not exercise his 2017 option on Feb. 28. Peterson missed almost all of last season with a right knee injury.
|Mar. 16, 2017 1:48 PM PT2:48 PM MT3:48 PM CT4:48 PM ET20:48 GMT4:48 1:48 PM MST3:48 PM EST2:48 PM CT0:48 UAE (+1)16:48 ETNaN: - Peterson's time with the Vikings is over. Minnesota general manager Rick Spielman confirmed so on Thursday.
Analysis: The Vikings signed former Oakland running back Latavius Murray early Thursday after a long night of negotiations. Then Spielman acknowledged in the afternoon he had spoken with Peterson to wish him well, clarifying that the franchise's all-time leading rusher will be playing elsewhere in 2017. The Vikings declined their $18 million option on his contract for 2017 to make him a free agent.
|Feb. 28, 2017 8:29 AM PT9:29 AM MT10:29 AM CT11:29 AM ET16:29 GMT0:29 9:29 AM MST11:29 AM EST10:29 AM CT20:29 UAE11:29 ETNaN: - Peterson, Minnesota's all-time leading rusher, will be an unrestricted free agent when the market opens next week.
Analysis: As expected, the Vikings declined to exercise their option for next season on Peterson's contract. Peterson was scheduled to make $18 million in 2017, what would have been an unwieldly hit to their salary cap. General manager Rick Spielman says the team will "continue to have conversations" with Peterson's representatives about the potential of re-signing the soon-to-be 32-year-old Peterson.
