Whitehurst agreed to a two-year contract Friday to return to the Chargers. A short time later, the Chargers released Volek. Analysis: Volek's most memorable appearance with the Chargers was in January 2008 when relieved the injured Rivers in the fourth quarter of a divisional playoff game at Indianapolis and led a game-winning, eight-play, 78-yard drive that he capped with a one-yard sneak to defeat ex-Colts QB Peyton Manning. |
