Poland vs. Portugal
Minute Commentary
120' FULL TIME REPORT
Portugal made it four semi-finals in five European Championships with a 5-3 penalty shootout victory over Poland in Marseille this evening. The two sides fought out a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes but neither side could win it before the lottery of the shootout. Poland opened the scoring inside two minutes as Robert Lewandowski finished off a nice flowing move down the left. Renato Sanches notched his first international goal to level the scores just after the half-hour mark. Both sides had chances after this but neither could find the elusive winning goal. The game ticked over into extra time and the best chance dropped to Cristiano Ronaldo, but with the keeper to beat from just six yards, couldn't adjust his feet right. The game got to penalties and after Jakub Blaszczykowski missed, Ricardo Quaresma sent the Portuguese fans into ecstasy with the winner. Portugal are through to the last four despite not winning a single game inside 90 minutes. For Poland, the dream is over. Full time, Poland 1-1 Portugal AET (Portugal win 5-3 on penalties).

Joao Moutinho stutters a little in his run up but sends Fabianski the wrong way.

Arkadiusz Milik rolls his spot kick home to level it up.

120' 1-1
Robert Lewandowski rolls in the coollest penalty you'll see all tournament into the corner.
120' 1-0 Portugal
Cristiano Ronaldo scores blasts his penalty into the corner!
120' PENALTIES
The ref blows his whistle. We are going to a penalty shootout.
120' ONE MINUTE
There is one additional minute.
119' ONE MINUTE
Chances have been few and far between as we tick over into the final minutes. It appears both sides are resigning themselves to the dreaded shootout.
115' OVER
Bartosz Kapustka makes his way into the box and tries to pick out Robert Lewandowski or Arkadiusz Milik in the centre but as he's going down already he can only dig it over the bar and out. Five minutes to go.
111' STAT
With only ten minutes to go here, Portugal could make it to the last four having failed to win a single game inside 90 minutes, drawing all five of their games so far.
109' DELAY
There's a slight hold up as a couple of idiots have run onto the pitch. A sea a blue-bodied security guards were quickly on the case to deal with the two invaders. We're back underway with Lukasz Fabianski in poseession.
106' SECOND HALF
The second half of extra time is up and running.
105' HALF TIME
We've reached half time in extra time. Only 15 minutes to go or we're heading to penalties.
103' NO ONE THERE
Robert Lewandowski works his socks off to get into a promising position in the box. He rolls the ball across the face of goal but not a single player has gambled or made a darting run to get onto it.
99' WIDE
Portugal are creating the majority of the chances as we come towards the 100th minute of the game. Ricardo Quaresma sees a shot blocked from 12 yards before Nani heads wide of the far post.
96' SUB
Portugal make their final change of the match bringing on Danilo Pereira for William Carvalho.
92' CHANCE
An early chance for Portugal as a cross goes deep to the far post from Eliseu. Cristiano Ronaldo can't get his feet right and the danger is cleared. What a big moment this could be in the game.
91' EXTRA TIME
The first period of extra time is underway.
90' FULL TIME
Normal time finishes and we will be heading for extra time.
90' THREE MINUTES
We have three minutes of added time. Can anyone grab a late winner or are we set for another 30 minutes?
89' CARD
Bartosz Kapustka is an aggressive little player based on this tournament. He's only just back from a suspension and six minutes into his late cameo here he's back in the ref's notebook. That's his third of the tournament and means he's now the most-booked player of this year's competition.
86' FLUFFED
Big chance for Cristiano Ronaldo to get his name up in lights as a ball is chipped through for him. He watches it all the way but completely fluffs his lines when attempting the shot and a relieved Lukasz Fabianski claims the ball.
83' SUB
First change for Poland now as highly-rated youngster Bartosz Kapustka is brought on. Kamil Grosicki is the man sacrificed.
82' WIDE
Portugal look dangerous on the counter and Joao Moutinho tries to find Cristiano Ronaldo. Michal Pazdan gets a vital touch on the pass but nearly sends it into his own net, with the ball trickling wide for a corner. Portugal create nothing from it though as Quaresma's delivery sails over everyone.
80' CHANGE
Goalscorer of the winner in the last 16 Ricardo Quaresma is introduced with ten minutes of normal time left. Joao Mario is the man leaving the field.
78' SAVED
Jose Fonte sends a powerful header at goal but Lukasz Fabianski catches it. Had it been either side of the stopper then Fabianski could've had problems.
75' OVER
Kamil Grosicki takes the ball down just outside the box. He looks as if he's going to strike it on the half-volley, but pulls out of it. He eventually drives a shot at goal that's always sailing, allowing Rui Patricio to simply fetch it for a goal kick.
73' SUB
The first change of the evening sees the newly-booked Adrien Silva replaced by Joao Moutinho. It's surprising it's taken this long for a sub to be made, which indicates to me both managers have extra time in the back of their minds.
69' FLICKED
Slight chance for Adam Nawalka's Poland as Artur Jedrzejczyk gets forward well once again and crosses to the front post. Arkadiusz Milik gets a deft touch onto it but can't beat Rui Patricio at his near post.
66' CARD
Kamil Glik goes into the book after smart play from Cristiano Ronaldo. The winger receives a pass and knocks it past the centre back as he tries to tackle him, with Glik only succeeding in getting a yellow.
64' WIDE
Southampton full-back Cedric Soares has wandered forward from the right-back slot and the ball is sprayed out to him. He unleashes a rocket from 35 yards which flies just past the upright. Lukasz Fabianski was well beaten there.
60' BLOCKED
Nani cuts the ball back to Ronaldo but he slices his shot behind him where Adrien Silva if following up. The midfielder's effort is blocked right in front of him though.
56' CHANCE
Ronaldo is slipped in inside the box and has Joao Mario up supporting. He has to square to the Sporting Lisbon man but he selfishly shoots from an ever-narrowing angle and only finds the side netting. Portugal could win the whole thing but if Ronaldo doesn't score the winner he probably won't be happy.
54' OFF
The ball is launched up to Artur Jedrzejczyk who has got in behind Cedric Soares. He thinks he's in but the flag is up quickly for offside.
52' DANGEROUS
Renato Sanches looks dangerous and sends over a teasing ball which arrives around the six yard box, but no one has made a run and Poland can deal with the threat easily.
49' SAVED
Poland conjure up the first chance of the half as Lukasz Piszczek bursts down the right before crossing to former Borussia Dortmund team-mate Robert Lewandowski. The striker tries a diving header but can't generate enough power and Rui Patricio collects with ease.
46' SECOND HALF
Portugal kick off the second half. Both sides are unchanged from the end of the first half.
45' HALF TIME REPORT
Poland and Portugal are evenly poised in their quarter-final tie in Marseille tonight. Goals from Robert Lewandowski and Renato Sanches mean it's currently all to play for in the second half. Poland had the lead in under 100 seconds when a neat move down the left allowed Kamil Grosicki to cross for Lewandowski to power home giving Rui Patricio no chance. Poland were on top for the first half of the half but Portugal came into their own as it grew on and were level on 33 minutes thanks to Sanches' first goal for his country. The second half is up shortly but you cannot call this game as it stands.
45' HALF TIME
There goes the half time whistle and it's 1-1 at the break.
45' ONE MINUTE
There will be one added minute at the end of the half.
41' NEARLY HALF TIME
As we approach half time the game is still proving to be fairly open with both sides doing well when going forward. Artur Jedrzejczyk goes into the book for Poland and he will miss the semi-final should Poland reach it now.
37' FOUL
Poland look to regain the lead not long after that leveller but as the ball is hooked into the box the whistle blows for a foul and the move comes to an end.
33' GOOOAAALLL!!!
Portugal are level! He's only been given his first start today but RENATO SANCHES bags his first Portugal goal and what a strike it is. The newly-signed Bayern Munich man sends an unstoppable drive into the corner courtesy of a little deflection. Game on.
30' CLAIM
Portugal and Ronaldo want a penalty as a cross comes into the box. Michal Pazdan goes in clumsily behind the winger and bundles him over. The ref waves away the claims though, much to the anger of the Portuguese fans.
27' SLOPPY
Portugal look good down the flanks but once more a cross into the box is straight to a Poland defender. They try through the centre with Ronaldo, but his low effort is straight at Lukasz Fabianski.
23' GOOD MOVE
Poland pull a superb passing move out the bag and should be finishing it off. Lewandowski, Jedrzejczyk and Grosicki combine superbly and the latter tries to cross at the end when he should be shooting. That would've been up there for goal of the tournament.
21' SLOW
The play seems to have slowed down a bit, with Poland waiting for chances to come and making Portugal chase them. It's brought forward and Arkadiusz Milik gets a shot off but his effort comes off Pepe and ricochets out for a corner.
17' CHANCES
Michal Pazdan commits a foul 35 yards out and Cristiano Ronaldo stands over over it, but can only smash it into the wall. Down the other end Lewandowski gets a low shot off but Rui Patricio smothers the effort.
14' WIDE
After a corner is well dealt with by Poland they surge down the other end. Robert Lewandowski has the taste for goals now and tries a left-footer from 25 yards but drags his effort well wide.
11' CAUGHT
Portugal on the attack again, this time with Nani in the box. His powerful attempt comes up off a defender and Lukasz Fabianski claims gratefully.
9' SHOT BLOCKED
Cristiano Ronaldo gets the ball on the edge of the box and there's only one thing on his mind. He smashes a shot goalwards but it's blocked and cleared away.
6' FOUL
Portugal look to hit back but Renato Sanches can't get behind a stubborn defence. Poland try to break away but Nani brings his man down and the Poles have a free kick.
2' GOOOAAALLL!!!
We've not even been playing two minutes and Poland have the lead! It's that man ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI who gets his first of the tournament, smashing into the bottom corner after Kamil Grosicki's cross from the left. What a start for the Poles!
1' UNDERWAY
The first quarter-final is up and running. Poland v Portugal. Lewandowski v Ronaldo. Only one will make the last four.
0' PORTUGAL TEAM NEWS
Fernando Santos makes two changes and it's two enforced changes for his Portugal side. Eliseu and Renato Sanches start in place of injured duo Raphael Guerreiro and Andre Gomes.
0' POLAND TEAM NEWS
Adam Nawalka sticks with the same side that started the 1-1 draw against Switzerland, with Kamil Glik, Grzegorz Krychowiak and key striker Robert Lewandowski forming the spine of the team.

0' PREVIEW
Poland and Portugal meet in Marseille at the Stade Velodrome tonight with a place in the semi-finals the prize for the winner. Poland have already created histroy by reaching the knockout stages of a European Championships for the first time ever. They'll look to exceed expectations now by reaching a first semi-final in a major tournament since doing so at the 1982 World Cup. Portugal have reached the semis in three of the last four Euros - including a final in 2004 - and that's seen as the standard for Fernando Santos' men, especially given their side of the draw for the knockouts. Both sides were forced into extra time by their last 16 opponents as Poland went the distance with Switzerland, winning 5-4 on penalties. Portugal were pushed and pushed by Croatia and looked set for a penalty shootout themselves, but Ricardo Quaresma's 117th-minute header was enough to send Cristiano Ronaldo and co in the last eight.
0' TEAM NEWS
Wojciech Szczesny will likely miss tonight's tie after a thigh injury he suffered during the group stages, though it would be harsh to drop Lukasz Fabianski following some good saves against Switzerland. Young star Bartosz Kapustka is again at Adam Nawalka's disposal after serving his suspension. Portugal will give late tests to duo Andre Gomes and Raphael Guerreiro after the pair picked up problems against Croatia, with the former being forced off early in the second half. Both sides have players one card away from suspension in the last four, with key duos Lukasz Piszczek and Michal Pazdan for Poland and Pepe and Quaresma for Portugal walking the proverbial tightrope.
0' HEAD TO HEAD
These two have met ten times in history with Portugal just edging the head-to-head record with four wins to Poland's three. It's been hard to separate the sides during the last couple of meetings however, with the two drawing 0-0 four years ago in a friendly and 2-2 in the last competitive meeting in 2007. Poland's last win was a 2-1 victory ten years ago while Portugal haven't beaten Poland since a 4-0 drubbing during the 2002 World Cup when both sides exited at the group stage - that game is the only meeting in which a team has scored more than twice.
0' OFFICIALS
German Felix Brych is the man in the middle for this evening's game, with Mark Borsch and Stefan Lupp his assistants. Bastian Dankert and Marco Fritz are additional assistants, while Milorad Mazic is the fourth official.
