Germany vs. Slovakia
Minute Commentary
Germany booked their place in the quarter-finals this evening with an easy 3-0 win over Slovakia. Everyone knew going into the game that the Slovak's would more than likely sit back and so they did, but that didn't stop the Germans. Jerome Boateng, Mario Gomez and Julian Draxler scored the goals that have set up a tie with the winner of Italy vs Spain. Boateng hammered home a volley after just eight minutes to set them on their way. It could've been two moments later but Mesut Ozil saw his penalty saved by Matus Kozacik. Slovakia had a chance themselves as Juraj Kucka forced Manuel Neuer into a world class one-handed save, before Gomez flicked home from close range. Draxler sealed the deal with the third on 63 minutes. It could've been more but Toni Kroos saw his effort from point-blank range saved by Matus Kozacik. Full time and it's Germany 3-0 Slovakia.
There goes the full time whistle and Germany win it 3-0. It's Italy or Spain up next for Joachim Low's men. A routine win.
90' SAVE
As we tick into two minutes of added time, Matus Kozacik makes a fine save denying Toni Kroos from all of six yards. Had Kroos aimed anywhere else he'd have been celebrating his side's fourth.
Lukas Podolski bursts down the left and puts across a tricky ball but Kornel Salata is there to deal with the danger and clear.
Norbert Gyomber is off for the Slovak's final change and Kornel Salata comes on. Jan Kozak's side can only be playing for damage limitation now.
It's still all Germany as we reach the final ten minutes. It's going to take a miracle for Slovakia to turn this around. As it stands Germany are playing Italy or Spain in the last eight. You just know Italians and Spaniards are letting out huge groans right now.
Bastian Schweinsteiger is on for Sami Khedira in what is Germany's last change. He came off the bench in the first game and went on to score in the dying seconds. Could he pop up with another this evening?
Joachim Low makes a double change now as goalscorers Julian Draxler and Jerome Boateng go off to be replaced by Benedikt Howedes and Lukas Podolski.
Mats Hummels goes into the book for what is a fantastic challenge on Milan Skriniar. He's first to the ball and wins it well not entirely sure why the ref's given the foul never mind the yellow card. The free kick is sent wide by Jan Durica.
Football can be a harsh game. Just as Slovakia look like getting back into the game, Germany go and score a third through JULIAN DRAXLER. The Wolfsburg man deserves this goal after his performance. A corner is flicked to the far post where Draxler volleys home neatly.
Julian Draxler has played incredibly well today and he brings out the tricks here, pulling out a Zidane twist to get by two men. He goes down in the process though. Over the last 15 minutes Slovakia have certainly been in the game more than they were in the first half.
Another chance for Slovakia now as Milan Skriniar is tripped by Julian Draxler. Hamsik lays it off to Juraj Kucka who shoots well wide. Poor effort.
Marek Hamsik lines up a free kick from about 25 yards. He strikes it well and it looks as if it could be heading in, but it takes a deflection off the wall and goes over Manuel Neuer's crossbar.
Slovakia have their first attempt of the game. A cross finds its way to Marek Hamsik, who looks up and slides the ball across to Juraj Kucka. Kucka sends a rocket straight at Manuel Neuer who parries before claiming it.
Germany resume their dominance and get a nice early cross into the box. Jan Durica and Thomas Muller contest it but the former heads away well.
The second half is up and running. Slovakia make one change, bringing on Jan Gregus for Vladimir Weiss.
Germany look on course to qualify for the last eight as it stands. They're 2-0 up against Slovakia in a game they have dominated so far. Jerome Boateng opened the scoring with a superb volley from the edge of the area, despite it taking a little nick on the way through. Mario Gomez got the second, flicking in from close range after great work from Julian Draxler. They could even afford to miss a penalty through Mesut Ozil. You sense there are more goals to come in this one.
There goes the whistle and it's 2-0 to Germany at the break.
One minute of added time is signalled.
It looks as if it could be game over now as MARIO GOMEZ doubles Germany's lead. Credit to Julian Draxler who did superbly to beat his man and get into the box. He looked up to see Gomez had got ahead of his man at the front post and he had the easy task of poking home. Two in two for Gomez.
41' SAVE
It looks for all the world as if Slovakia are going to be level as Peter Pekarik drifts in unnoticed and crosses for Juraj Kucka. The AC Milan man's header is heading in but Manuel Neuer gets up incredibly well to tip over - what a save.
Slovakia have a half chance as Jonas Hector passes back to Manuel Neuer but it doesn't have much on it. Michal Duris tries to nip in and level the scores but Neuer is off his line quick and clears for a throw.
Mario Gomez holds the ball up well and sprays it out wide to Joshua Kimmich. Kimmich delivers to the front post where Martin Skrtel beats Muller to the ball to stop a certain goal. They seem to clash as the defender goes down clutching his head.
Ozil shows great awareness and vision to pick out Muller in space when it looked as if he didn't have anything on. Muller shoots from the edge of the box but blazes his effort over. Surely he's going to bag one today?
The chances are building up for Germany now. Ozil sends a delightful cross towards the six yard box where Thomas Muller has made a darting run. He connects well but can only head onto the top of the net. That first Euros goal is proving all too elusive.
25' WIDE
It's almost 2-0 as Mesut Ozil sends a low effort fizzing just wide of the far post. You don't come much closer than that - Matus Kozacik had no chance had it been on target.
Germany produce a lovely move as Julian Draxler slides in Jonas Hector who had made an overlapping run. Hector puts in a decent cross but Matus Kozacik can claim it at the second attempt after parrying the initial cross.
They're all trying volleys it seems. A cross into the box from the right is headed up and from a tight angle Mesut Ozil tries an ambitious effort but sends it well wide. Identical position to where Marco van Basten scored that goal.
The Slovakians can't cope with the style which the Germans play and they're just being overhauled here. Mario Gomez picks up possession and gets into the area before shooting towards the corner. It looks as if it's going in but the keeper saves. Moments later Toni Kroos attempts a Boateng-esque volley, but it bounces harmlessly wide.
It's saved! Matus Kozacik guesses the right way and keeps out Mesut Ozil's spot kick. It was at a good height for the keeper but he still had to get across.
Germany have a penalty! Martin Skrtel pushes over Mario Gomez and receives a yellow card for doing so. The ref points to the spot.
It's been all Germany so far and it could prove to be a long day for Slovakia should they concede again soon. They can't just sit back and defend now or they'll be going home.
Germany have the lead! And what a goal it is from JEROME BOATENG. A corner comes in and it looks to be dealt with but the centre back smashes a volley into the bottom corner, giving Matus Kozacik no chance. That's his first international goal.
Julian Draxler goes on a mazy run down the right-wing and breezes past Norbert Gyomber. The full back hauls Draxler down and Germany have a free kick. It's sent over and Sami Khedira connects with it but heads just over for a corner.
Germany are on the front foot and are playing slow, passing football, patiently waiting for the chance to come forward. Toni Kroos spots Mesut Ozil at the far post, but his diagonal cross is over hit and floats out of play. That's unlike the Real Madrid man.
The game is up and running. Germany are in their white shirts with black shorts, while Slovakia are in all blue.
Jan Kozak makes four alterations to the side that started the draw with England. Tomas Hubocan, Robert Mak, Viktor Pecovsky and Ondrej Duda go out and in come Norbert Gyomber, Patrik Hrosovsky, Milan Skriniar and Michal Duris.
Joachim Low makes just one change to the side that beat Northern Ireland 1-0, with Julian Draxler coming in to replace Mario Gotze.

Germany take on Slovakia at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille this evening, with a place in the last eight of the tournament the prize for the winner. Germany are the much hyped favourites for this game and for the whole competition, and it isn't hard to see why; Joachim Low's side advanced top of Group C with seven points, and are now the only team yet to concede a goal. Slovakia made it through as one of the best third-place teams, finishing below Wales and England in Group B, and for the most-part of their group games sat back and invited pressure. They won't be able to do that against a Germany team capable of almost anything. Anything can happen in football however, and less than a month ago these two met in Augsburg, with Slovakia shocking them as they ran out 3-1 victors.
Jerome Boateng may be back again for Germany tonight following a calf problem which saw his game vs Northern Ireland cut short. No other injury worries for coach Low but he is expected to change his line-up, with Bastian Schweinsteiger being talked up as a starter. Slovak duo Robert Mak and Dusan Svento are 50/50 after picking up knocks. Defender Peter Pekarik suffered a nose injury against England but is expected to play.
The two teams have met ten times in history, but only twice competitively. There has never been a draw between them, with Germany winning on seven occasions and Slovakia on three. Germany's last win was back in 2007, a 2-1 home win in qualifying for Euro 2008. Germany have outscored Slovakia by 22 goals to 12 over the ten fixtures.
Szymon Marciniak is the man in the middle for this game, with Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz his assistants. Additional assistants are Pawel Raczkowski and Tomasz Musial, while the fourth official is Bjorn Kuipers.
