Iceland vs. Austria
Minute Commentary
90' FULL-TIME REPORT
Iceland booked their place in the knockout stages of Euro 2016 with a 2-1 victory over Austria in a thrilling match. The Scandinavians hit the bar in the early exchanges but took the lead after 20 minutes when Jon Dadi Bodvarsson bundled in from close range. Austria had a great chance to level the scores from the spot before half time when Ari Skulason felled David Alaba in the box, but Aleksandar Dragovic struck the post from 12 yards. Marcel Koller's team created chance after chance at the start of the second period and finally got back on level terms when Alessandro Schopf slalomed his way through the opposition defence before finishing coolly. But Austria still needed another goal and, despite their domination, they couldn't find it. Instead, Iceland sealed their achievement on the break as substitute Arnor Traustason slid the ball into the back of the net deep into injury time. That goal means Iceland will now face England in the last 16. They will be no pushovers.
90' FULL-TIME WHISTLE
And that's it! It's finished Iceland 2 Austria 1!
90' TRAUSTASON SCORES
Unbelievable! That's game over! Iceland break upfield and Bjarnason squares to the substitute Arnor TRAUSTASON who slides the ball into the back of the net from close range! Iceland are through!
90' DESPERATE STUFF
Desperate stuff now. Fuchs half-volleys from 35 yards but the ball is deflected out for a corner. Almer, the goalkeeper, comes up for the set piece but it comes to nothing.
90' JANKO HEADER
Austria get the ball back and head upfield. A cross comes in from Fuchs and it finds Janko but the striker puts his header high and wide. Goal kick.
90' SO CLOSE
Iceland have the ball deep in Austrian territory. They don't have long to hang on now.
90' FOUR ADDED MINUTES
We'll have four added minutes.
90' ALABA BLOCKED
This is relentless from Austria but they can't get a shot away. Alaba eventually does but Gylfi Sigurdsson blocks.
87' INGASON FOR GUDMUNDSSON
A late substitution from Iceland. Defender Sverrir Ingi Ingason is on, with Johann Gudmundsson being brought off.
85' TIRING AUSTRIANS
Austria's relentless attacking has subsided a little and they look to be a bit leggy out there. Surely they'll get another chance though?
83' HALLDORSSON BOOKED
Halldorsson is booked as he takes an age over a free-kick deep in Icelandic territory.
81' ALABA FREE-KICK
Kolbeinn Sigthorsson's last act of the game is to foul Baumgartlinger and he's replaced by Arnor Traustason. The resulting free-kick is struck at goal by Alaba but Halldorsson fingertips over the bar again.
79' ARNASON BOOKED
Arnason is booked after fouling Alaba in an aerial duel on the edge of the Austria box. Very harsh decision from the referee.
78' JANTSCHER FOR SABITZER
Jakob Jantscher enters the field of play for Austria, with Marcel Sabitzer going off. That's their last substitution.
76' PENALTY SHOUT
Iceland want a penalty kick as Theodor Bjarnason's cross hits Klein's hand. There was no intent from the Austrian, though, and his arm was in a natural position.
73' SCHOPF DENIED
Austria should be ahead as Janko's through ball finds an onside Schopf one-on-one with Halldorsson. He tries to side-foot past the goalkeeper but the Icelandic stopper blocks solidly. Should have scored.
72' BJARNASON FOR BODVARSSON
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson goes off for Iceland, with Theodor Bjarnason coming on in his place.
71' JANKO BOOKED
Janko is booked after grappling with Ragnar Sigurdsson right on the edge of the Iceland box. The two of them were wrestling with each other there!
69' JANKO MISS
How did he miss? Sabitzer fires a low cross into the near post and Janko tries to hook into the back of the net from six yards. He gets too much on his effort, though, and he puts the ball wide of the front post.
66' SIGURDSSON DENIED
What a chance! A lovely flowing move ends in Bodvarsson laying off to Sigurdsson at the edge of the box, but his shot as he falls over is palmed away by Almer. End-to-end stuff.
64' AUSTRIA PRESSING
Remember, a draw is good enough for Iceland but Austria need to win. The latter are dominating now, though, and you can see them scoring a second.
61' SCHOPF SCORES
It's in! Austria are level through Alessandro SCHOPF! He feints to shoot on the edge of the box before waltzing between Iceland defenders and finishing accurately into the far corner. We're all square!
58' BODVARSSON JUGGLE
Bodvarsson looks awkward in possession but he's really effective. He juggles the ball on the edge of the box before getting under his volley and sending it over the bar.
57' SIEGE MENTALITY
Schopf's left-footed slapshot stings the palms of Halldorsson, who gathers at the second attempt. Siege mentality from Iceland already.
54' BRAVE ARNASON
Another outstanding block by Arnason! He flings himself to get in the way of Sabtizer's shot this time, heading away the powerful drive.
52' JANKO STRETCH
Baumgartlinger is starting to run this game. He sees Janko's run into the box but the big striker can't quite stretch to get the ball under control.
50' SIGURDSSON VOLLEY
What a start to this second half! Gylfi Sigurdsson's determination sees him barge through several Austria defenders in the final third. The ball sits up and the Swansea City man lashes a volley narrowly wide of the far post.
49' PENALTY SHOUT
Austria want a penalty kick as Sabitzer is felled by Skulason, who slipped inside the box. The contact was accidental but you have to say that that should have been another penalty to the Austrians!
48' HEROIC ARNASON
What a block by Arnason! An Arnautovic cross is only cleared as far as Alaba ten yards out, but his shot doesn't hit the back of the net because the centre back is in the way. This could be a second half onslaught.
47' BJARNASON OVER
An early chance for Bjarnason, who lashes over from 12 yards after getting onto the end of a flick on in the Austria box. Another goal would be gold dust for Iceland, who only need a draw to go through of course.
46' BACK UNDERWAY
We're back up and running in Paris. Austria have made two changes at the break, with Marc Janko and Alessandro Schopf on for Sebastian Prodl and Stefan Ilsanker. Austria going for broke.
45' HALF-TIME REPORT
Iceland have one foot in the knockout stages of Euro 2016 and lead Austria 1-0 at the break in Paris. Jon Dadi Bodvarsson's goal is the difference between the teams; he bundled home from seven yards after Austria failed to clear Aron Gunarsson's long throw. Marcel Koller's men will be ruing their missed opportunities, though, with Marko Arnautovic going close on several occasions. But, undoubtedly, the best chance fell to Aleksandar Dragovic after 38 minutes. Ari Skulason pulled David Alaba down in the box to concede a penalty but Dragovic - who was sent off in the opening game against Hungary - struck the post with his spot kick. Johann Gudmundsson has rattled the bar for Iceland too in what has been a fantastic game for the neutral to watch.
45' HALF-TIME WHISTLE
And that's half time. It's Iceland 1 Austria 0.
43' BAUMGARTLINGER DENIED
Baumgartlinger bends a first-time shot at goal from 30 yards and it's going to dip in but Halldorsson is alert and tips over the top. Cracking game, this.
40' SIGURDSSON SLICE
Ragnar Sigurdsson slices the ball back towards his goal from an Austria cross. Halldorsson does well to adjust his feet and keep the ball from looping over his head and in.
39' DISALLOWED GOAL
Iceland have the ball in the back of the net as Bjarnason finishes confidently in a one-on-one opportunity but the flag is rightly up for offside and it won't count.
38' PENALTY MISSED
Oh dear! Aleksandar Dragovic's tournament gets even worse. He got sent off in the opening game against Hungary and now he's missed a penalty, smacking the foot of the left post. The Austrian fans can't believe it!
36' PENALTY AUSTRIA
Hinteregger lets fly from range but the effort deflects off an Iceland body and rebounds away for a corner kick. Iceland clear from the corner but the ball is fired back in and Skulason is penalised for holding on Alaba in the box. Penalty to Austria!
34' ICELAND DEFENCE
Iceland have their defensive banks well-set and Austria are searching for a route through. There's a real challenge ahead of them.
30' ARNAUTOVIC ACTION
Arnautovic smashes accurately towards the top left-hand corner from just inside the box, but Haldorsson makes light work of preventing the ball from hitting the back of the net, plucking it out of the air nonchalantly. Just after, Baumgartlinger picks Arnautovic out with a diagonal pass into the box but he heads over.
29' ARNAUTOVIC DOWN
Arnautovic tangles with Ragnar Sigurdsson in the box and goes down but the referee gives a free-kick in Iceland's favour. The pacey winger is already looking a bit frustrated out there.
25' STUNNED AUSTRIA
Austria look shell-shocked at the minute. They're continuing to show patience and can't panic if they're to get back into this.
22' GROUP PERMUTATIONS
As things stand, Iceland would come second in the group behind Hungary, and Portugal would be heading home along with Austria. There are surely still plenty of twists and turns left yet, though.
20' BODVARSSON SCORES
It's in! Iceland have the lead and it's Jon Dadi BODVARSSON! He bundles the ball in from seven yards out after Aron Gunarsson's long throw into the box broke loose. Advantage Iceland!
17' ARNASON SLASH
A Gylfi Sigurdsson corner kick is kept alive by Aron Gunarsson's head at the back post but there isn't a blue shirt around in the six yard box to hook in from close range. Kari Arnason then slashes a shot from the edge of the box but it goes over. Iceland look dangerous.
13' HALLDORSSON HOWLER
Oh wow! Hannes Halldorsson has got away with that one! He hesitates to clear his lines and doesn't realise Marko Arnautovic is hot on his heels. The Austria man steals the ball but the goalkeeper makes up for his error as the Stoke man hesitates to tap in from six yards out. Unbelievable.
11' MISPLACED PASS
Austria finally get into the final third but David Alaba wastes possession when he tries to link up with Florian Klein down the right wing.
8' WARM CONDITIONS
It's really warm down there on the pitch so it'll be interesting to see how the two sets of players deal with the conditions as the game goes on. For now, it's Iceland who are showing more energy.
6' POSITIVE ICELAND
It's a really good start from Iceland, who are on the front foot and forcing Austria back. The Austrians could do with getting their foot on the ball.
3' OFF THE BAR
It's off the bar! Johann Gudmundsson slams a left-footed drive towards the top corner from 30 yards. Robert Almer is motionless as the ball cannons off the bar and back out. So close!
1' WE'RE OFF
We're up and running in Paris.
0' STAY TUNED
Kick-off at the Stade de France is at 5pm. Bradley King will keep you updated with all the action.
0' MATCH PREVIEW
Iceland and Austria go head-to-head at the Stade de France on Wednesday evening with both nations still holding realistic ambitions of making the last 16 of Euro 2016. The Icelandics need just a point to confirm their place in the knockout rounds after back-to-back draws with Portugal and Hungary. Austria's task is more difficult. They need to win to progress but that will not be easy against an opposition which has looked sturdy and organised in their previous fixtures. Marcelo Koller's men haven't yet scored in the tournament but that will need to change tonight if the pre-tournament dark horses aren't to be on an early plane back home.
