HALF-TIME REPORT Northern Ireland must wait to see if they've done enough to advance to the knockout stages of Euro 2016 as one of the best third place finishers after a 1-0 defeat to Germany at the Parc des Princes. Mario Gomez's goal on the half-hour mark proved to be the difference, with Thomas Muller breaking through the opposition backline before keeping his cool to square to the frontman. The scoreline could have been far more convincing if it wasn't for a combination of great goalkeeping and the thickness of the woodwork. Thomas Muller hit both the bar and post in the first half while Northern Ireland goalkeeper Michael McGovern made stunning saves from the likes of Mesut Ozil and Gomez. Michael O'Neill's men have not been overawed in France but they face a nervous wait to see if they'll be in the last 16.
FULL-TIME WHISTLE And that's it. It's finished Northern Ireland 0 Germany 1.
THREE ADDED MINUTES Mesut Ozil lashes a shot wide of the near post from the edge of the box as we enter three minutes of added time.
GOMEZ DRILLS The ball ricochets inside the Northern Irish box before Mario Gomez drills a low effort straight down Michael McGovern's throat. This game should be over and done with.
TIRING TEAMS Jonas Hector chests down the ball after Northern Ireland clear a corner kick but he lashes over the bar. Both teams are looking a bit tired now.
MCGINN FOR EVANS Mesut Ozil slams a shot at goal from 25 yards but gets under the ball too much, putting the effort high over the top. Meanwhile, Corry Evans comes off and is replaced by Niall McGinn for Northern Ireland.
MCGOVERN BRILLIANCE Another fine save by McGovern! This time, Gomez gets his head to Kimmich's chipped delivery and his header, aimed low into the bottom left corner, is brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper who slaps the ball wide. He's kept Northern Ireland in it!
GERMAN POSSESSION Germany continue to dominate possession but they're not showing too many signs of getting behind this Northern Ireland defence.
KIMMICH FOR BOATENG Kimmich cuts in off the right and curls a shot at goal but puts the ball way over. Jerome Boateng is replaced by Benedikt Howedes for Germany.
NORTHERN IRISH GRIT Northern Ireland have shown some grit in the second half but they're not showing too many signs of getting back on level terms. If Germany play the rest of this game sensibly, they'll see it through. Gomez stretches to try and reach a Hector cross but can't connect.
MAGENNIS FOR WARD Northern Ireland bring on Josh Magennis for the final 20 minutes, with Jamie Ward retreating to the bench. He's run his socks off today.
SCHWEINSTEIGER FOR KHEDIRA Sami Khedira goes off for Germany, with Bastian Schweinsteiger on in his place. Meanwhile, Muller heads Ozil's cross high and wide.
LAFFERTY CHASE Northern Ireland need to find a way to get back into this. Kyle Lafferty chases after a long ball but can't get on the end of it.
GERMANY FREE KICK Germany earns a free kick just outside the 18-yard box! A short ball from Kroos to a streaking Muller ends with a blocked shot 15 yards out.
IRISH CHANCES Northern Ireland push up the field and find success! They earn two consecutive corners, however the second is easily cleared by the Germans who begin to control possession once again.
KHEDIRA CLOSE Sami Khedira attempts a strong right footed shot on net that is parried by McGovern into the path of Mario Gomez! The striker tries to steer the ball on net with a headed effort, however he misses to the right and Northern Ireland escape with a goal kick.
GOTZE OFF And just like that Mario Gotze is taken off for the fresh legs of Andre Schurrle. Schurrle has been a super sub for Germany in the last year as he had a successful World Cup last year.
MARIO GOTZE MISSES TWICE Mario Gotze has two absolutely superb chances to send the Germans up by two, but misses both! The first, Gomez tries to blast a close ranged shot that is immediately blocked by Michael McGovern, the second coming on a low cross to the near post that Gotze miss hit sending the ball just wide.
OFFSIDES FOR GOMEZ Jerome Boateng looks to find Mario Gomez down the middle of the pitch with a beautiful long pass through traffic. Gomez is adjudged to be offsides, though, and the play is blown dead.
KIMMICK CROSS Joshua Kimmich attempts to send a cross into the box from the right wing, but his pass does not bend far enough away from net as Michael McGovern tracks the ball down and snatches it out of the air. Great start here for the Germans, their attack looks as potent as ever.
SECOND HALF We are underway with our second half! The sides have switched ends and the Germans will now attack from left to right.
NORTHERN IRELAND HALF ANALYSIS Michael McGovern had a phenomenal half and came up with several key saves to keep Northern Ireland in this game. As far as offense goes, Northern Ireland has struggled at finding any true chances against the reigning world champions. The few success they have found moving forward have come on quick break outs from their own half. If the Irish wish to find an equalizer they must focus on utilizing the counter attack to catch the Germans out at the back.
GERMANY HALF ANALYSIS Germany will be pleased with their first half performance as they dominated play for much of the 45 minutes, however they had numerous scoring chances and were only able to capitalize on one opportunity. Additionally, Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez are playing off each other excellently up top with Muller constantly finding Gomez in dangerous positions.
HALFTIME That is it! Our official has blown his whistle to end the first half! Germany lead Northern Ireland 1-0 at the break with the sole goal coming from Mario Gomez in the 30th minute.
GERMANY PUSHING Germany continue to push up the field looking for a second goal before halftime. The Germans would take the result as is, however another goal would solidify their chances at advancing to the knockout rounds.
OFF THE BAR It's off the bar! That's so nearly 2-0 to Germany, but Muller's side-footed effort from 12 yards out comes back off the bar. Just after, Khedira bundles the ball towards goal from six yards out after a German corner kick but it hits a Northern Irish body. Too many chances from Michael O'Neill's point of view.
HAMMER BLOW That's a sickener for Northern Ireland, who have put every ounce of energy into the opening half an hour. With the other game in this group goalless, the Northern Irish would still finish third but would have a tense wait to see if they qualify as one of the best third-place finishers.
GOMEZ SCORES It's in! Germany finally make the breakthrough and it's Mario GOMEZ. Muller's marauding run finds a hole in the centre of the Northern Ireland defence, but it looks like Cathcart closes the door on the chance. Muller keeps his cool though, squaring back for Gomez whose deflected shot from 12 yards goes in the back of the net.
OFF THE POST It's off the post! Kimmich's low cross to the near post is met by Muller, whose stooping header strikes the foot of the woodwork. Surely the world champions are going to take one of these chances soon?
WARD DRIVE Ward robs Gotze on the halfway line before storming towards the Germany goal. Washington makes a good run to his left but the Nottingham Forest man goes alone, drilling into the arms of Neuer from 25 yards out.
MULLER WIDE That was close! Gomez chests a pass down on the edge of the box for the onrushing Muller. From a tight angle, he volleys towards the far post. The ball beats McGovern but also the far post, going a foot or so wide.
WRONG PASS Washington breaks the offside trap and Northern Ireland briefly have a four-on-four chance, but the striker chooses the wrong pass and Boateng cuts it out.
OZIL SCOOP Hector squares the ball back from the byline and the onrushing Ozil shoots first-time but he wasn't expecting it to come to him. As a result, he mishits the ball, scooping it up and over McGovern's crossbar.
MULLER CROSS Muller gets to the byline and whips in a cross as he loses his balance, but he puts too much on it and there was no one in the middle for Germany anyway.
CALMED DOWN Northern Ireland calm things down with a spell of possession themselves. They're being roared on by their passionate support, as always.
MCGOVERN SAVES Again, the chances come and again McGovern is equal to them. The ball falls to Gotze in the box but his side-foot attempt is blocked by the goalkeeper, before Kimmich chips over from the rebound.
OZIL FLUFFS McGovern has to come off his line to punch away a Kroos free-kick which was aimed towards Hummels' head. Just after, Ozil has a golden chance to open the scoring but McGovern blocks the Arsenal man's fluffed shot. Pressure building.
MULLER DENIED The first chance of the game goes to Muller as he goes in one-on-one with McGovern after latching onto Ozil's first-time pass. However, the Northern Ireland goalkeeper rushes off his line to smother the opportunity. The Northern Irish race up the other end on the break but Washington's control lets him down.
KHEDIRA PASS Khedira tries to find the run of Muller from the left side of the box with an outside of the boot pass, but he puts too much on it and Northern Ireland get a goal kick.
SLOW GERMANY Germany haven't got going at all yet, misdirecting several long diagonal passes in the Northern Ireland half. Michael O'Neill will be delighted by this start.
NEUER SWEEPS Neuer comes storming out of his goal to sweep up a long ball over the top but he misjudges it, almost allowing Washington to go round him. In the end, the goalkeeper shoulder barges the frontman out of the way to secure a throw-in for his team. Good start from Northern Ireland, though.
WE'RE OFF We're up and running at the Parc des Princes. Can Northern Ireland get the result they need to progress or will Germany cement their progression as group winners?
STAY TUNED Kick-off at the Parc des Princes is at 5pm and Bradley King will be here to provide live updates on all the action.
MATCH PREVIEW Germany and Northern Ireland both go into the final game of Group C still needing points to secure progression to the knockout stages of Euro 2016. The Germans are top of the table with four points and another one will confirm their place in the last 16, but they'll want a victory to top the group. Meanwhile, Northern Ireland are third, a point behind both Die Mannschaft and Poland - the latter of whom take on bottom nation Ukraine. Michael O'Neill's men are guaranteed third spot but know they probably need at least a draw against the world champions to give themselves the best hope of qualifying as one of the best third place teams.
EARLY TEAM NEWS After beating Ukraine last time out, Northern Ireland could stick with the same line-up that started that game - though boss Michael O'Neill may err on the side of caution against the giants of Germany. Striker Kyle Lafferty offers an alternative option to Conor Washington up front, while Paddy McNair and Conor McLaughlin will also want recalls. Germany have Sami Khedira, Jerome Boateng and Mesut Ozil all walking a disciplinary tightrope while Joachim Low must choose between Mario Gotze and Mario Gomez up front.
HAVE WE MET BEFORE? Northern Ireland do not have a good record against Germany and have lost the last four meetings between the nations, conceding 14 goals. The last time they avoided defeat was in November 1996 in a 1-1 draw in Nurnberg, with Gerry Taggart and Andreas Moller getting on the scoresheet.
REF WATCH French referee Clement Turpin is the man in the middle this afternoon. This is his second assignment of the tournament having also taken charge of Hungary's 2-0 victory over Austria this time last week, during which he issued defender Aleksandar Dragovic with a red card.
