Wolves hire Stale Solbakken as new manager

WOLVERHAMPTON, England (AP) Wolverhampton Wanderers has hired former Cologne coach Stale Solbakken to take charge of the club following its relegation from the English Premier League.

The 44-year-old Solbakken led FC Copenhagen to five Danish titles before joining Cologne a year ago. But the former Norway midfielder was fired last month by Cologne, which was relegated from the Bundesliga last weekend.

Wolves central defender Roger Johnson told Sky Sports News: "I don't know who the guy is to be honest. It is out of the blue."

Terry Connor, who has been in charge of Wolves since Mick McCarthy was fired in February, will lead the team in its final match in the topflight on Sunday at Wigan before standing down.

Wolves will play in the League Championship next season.
